I was thinking of buying one of those 10" eee pcs since i'd like to have something lightweight to surf the net and store pictures etc while i'm travelling but also maybe do stuff for school.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with those things, screen size is alright to me but i'm just worried about eyestrain and headaches etc.

I thought it'd be cool if asus or whoever would do a touchscreen version. Then it'd be like a larger nintendo ds and wouldn't have to strain my fingers on the touchpad or knob like on other laptops. Buying one of those touchscreen kits off ebay and putting them in myself later on is an idea.

Opinions would be appreciated.

thanks guys.

It's just that i don't really need anything that powerful. Just something with a just big enough screen and is light, but yeah, that's something to think about.

ahhh
i really want a mini pc. not because i *need* one, but because i want one.
i played around with the eepc a few weeks ago.
it didn't seem too hard to type with.

if you're near a store, they should have them, try and feel it yourself.
i'm not a guy, i don't have big hands, etc. what might be OK for one is going to be annoying for another.
i think HP has the biggest keyboard (it looks really nice), but it's not on intel atom and it sounds like it's not as good as the other minis....it looks REALLY nice tho...

Yea, i've been wanting a laptop for a long time and now these little tiny guys are awesome. I tried out one of the EEE PCs at Best Buy though, but the keyboard is WAYYYY too small. It would definately give you a hand cramp trying to type on the thing. I don't remember what screen size it was, but it was a smaller model. Make sure you can actually try it out in person to see if the keyboard is big enough.

That's my biggest beef with EEE PCs because of my large man hands too. I think probably minimum size of a laptop for me with a keyboard I can use is like 10".

I read that the HP and Lenovo mini laptops have good sized keyboards.

thanks for the response guys :)

1) my price range i guess id around AUS$1000 which i think is about US$800 right now, i suppose. Not sure if there's much difference in price between the two countries but it doesn't matter. Just something relatively cheap will do.

2) Not so worried about the keyboard size, seems ok enough for me when i had a look at it the other day. My main "health" concern with it was just eyestrain. I didn't want to stand in the store looking at the login screen so long to try it out haha.

3) I'm not an art student so i don't need any real power for media software or anything. Just some netsurfing and word processing etc. Although it'd be good if the eee had a dvd drive somehow.

I was about fed up thinking about these 'issues' that i was thinking of getting a normal laptop in case things didn't go the netbook way.
What do you guys think of these ones that i saw at the store (which usually has the decent prices)?
