So this next season's Survivor is in Africa, but they manage to find at least one (token) Asian American player...

...who literally is a player. He's a professional video game player (Super Smash Bros). Commence your groaning.

To be honest, he didn't perform that bad in the episode, though it seems fitness / athleticism-wise, his team in general sucks.

I was a bit annoyed they played up the whole "I'm awkward with girls" angle in his interviews.

Oh, I think he and tokyolovestory are friends! TLS, we'll have to watch Survivor at your house when it comes on. I hope your mom buys a Costco-size bag of Cheetos.

i still dont see why survivor is still popular...it was stupid the first time with richard hatch, and the only good to come out of it was yul kwon

I really liked Yau-Mann as well. I hope he got his truck back from that lying bastard.

I like Craisins. They are sugar bombs.

I'm not watching this season but I will give Survivor some leeway since they did cast Yul---who is by far one of the best AA representations we've had on TV.

Don't hate, man, just don't hate.
I'm trying to figure out how I could get a two month sabbatical so I could go on the show. Such is the life of a working stiff.

I hope not too much, they did ask Yul Kwon to "nerd" it up for when he went on survivor. They must have really hated having him win. The suppose to be nerdy Asian beats all the other races in a raced based survivor series, fuckers.

Do you have a source for this ?

Here's one reference:
http://www.236.com/blog/w/brad_taylor_negron/michael_jackson_jesse_jackson_2293.php

My dinner companion is Yul Kwon, a modest Korean-American from Yale, wearing a finely cut suit. He is also the modest million-dollar winner of the CBS show Survivor. He tells me, "The only two Asians on TV are on Lost and Heroes--and neither of them can speak English." He says, "all television wants for Asians is for us to be Kung fu masters or geeks," noting that the producers of Survivor "wanted me to wear a suit and nerd glasses." His eyes glance in the direction of the stage. He whispers, "There is no Asian Jesse Jackson."

I was at his Asian culture center panel when he said that.

What!? Ok... that is messed up... well now I'm even more glad that he won---and did it in style.

I was mostly watching the debate tonight, but the Asian gamer beat the physics professor when it came to the puzzle. The gamer's team won because of him. Woo hoo!
