Hi there,
I live in New York City.. wondering if there are other new yorkers here interested in martial arts training. I practice Wing Chun Kung Fu (詠春拳) and have a small group I train with weeknights and weekends. I'm mainly looking for more hands to train with and to meet cool people to network with. I enjoy reading this forum and into asian culture, food and history. One of the reasons i enjoyed martial arts is because martial arts gave me a way to deal with the racist bs here in Brooklyn while growing up. I'm looking for people who had similar life experiences or just want to learn and train martial arts.
As for training, we work on a lot of two-man partner drills that teach structure, distance, timing, flow, power and relaxation but everything leads into controlled sparring and then free sparring. we also do solo forms first to understand the basic correct movements and to learn the underlying principles of Wing Chun. We also train the wooden man and do focus mitt work. we train to use correct body mechanics and finesse instead of brute muscular force. At some point in training, you'll see and understand how everything is put together. The lineage is Wong Shun Leung and Gary Lam. Wong Shun Leung was Bruce Lee's kung fu brother and main instructor. I'm looking to maintain what i have and build a good training study and practice group. If you are interested, feel free to drop me a line.
