Winehouse: You're a No-Good Racist?
Today 9:25 AM PDT

Here's a performance that won't make Amy Winehouse's greatest-hits album.

British tabloid News of the World has posted a video that appears to show the Grammy-winning "Rehab" crooner in a reputed drug den and singing a racist song—footage so shocking it could threaten her career.

According to the newspaper, the repulsive scenes were filmed by husband Blake Fielder-Civil in May 2007, when the couple were on their honeymoon after eloping to Miami.

Winehouse and a female pal giggle at the camera as Fielder-Civil urges them to sing a crude racist chant set to the kiddie tune "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes"—all the while promising them that he really isn't filming.

"Can we have a singsong of it?" he asks.

"Blacks, Pakis, Gooks and Nips, Gooks and Nips!" they chime. "And deaf and dumb and blind and gay!"

As Winehouse sings, she intentionally slants her eyes in full-on Asian stereotyping. What looks to be drug accoutrements sit on a table beside her.

News of the World said it received the bombshell video from a former Winehouse pal out to expose the negative influence Fielder-Civil has had over her.

An additional video posted on the tab's site shows Winehouse passed out on a couch in broad daylight covered by a blanket, along with several still photos depicting her in various states of disarray, including with what appears to be drug paraphernalia.

A rep for Winehouse could not be reached for immediate comment. But according to British media reports, when news of the video containing her racist refrain surfaced Sunday morning, Winehouse issued a mea culpa to paparazzi camped outside her home.

I don't even know who she is but hear her name a lot on papers and on the web. What a bitch, most of them are racist but they hide it well. She was exposed.

i can already imagine what people would say to defend her - that she's not racist, that what she said came from her being just stupid and on drugs.

but the point is not what she said, the point is that she had it in her to say it.

Drugs and alchohol lower your inhibitions. They don't create your thoughts.

She conveniently left out "kikes". I suppose if she did that, everyone would be fine with it, because, "look, she's poking fun at herself also!"

Off-topic, but I always thought she was a transvestite. Whatever the case, she definitely has "issues" on many levels. Hopefully this signals the end of her popularity.

Word.

Used to kind of like her sound. Now I'm definitely not a fan.

Pre-drug / pre-tatt Amy:

"Fuck Me Pumps"

"You Know I'm No Good"

"Tears Dry On Their Own"

The sample on "Tears" from "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" is esp. nice.

Same here - very sad state of affairs here on the westcoast. Last time I was in Toronto I felt it was very bad there too from what I experienced and I was only there for 3 days.

I thought it was pretty self-explanatory after Appollyon's post. Just alot of racist crap etc. It wasn't like that when I was younger and went to visit. Alot of people are feeling really insecure.

Has anyone heard about Amy Winehouse performing at Nelson Mandela’s birthday concert celebration in London today? That’s a bit strange. Yes, she might have already been on the bill before the video came out, but still…crack addict Amy Winehouse at NM’s birthday?

If you think about it though, it may not be that strange. A lot of racists can compartmentalize their racism. For example, they can enjoy sports, their sports teams, and sports stars such as Kobe Bryant and Hideki Matsui and even root for them. Nonetheless, racists are racists through and through. They hold racist ideologies and attitudes that are only momentarily suspended long enough to fulfill their gratification from seeing a booming homerun hit a mile long or from completing an order at a Chinese restaurant to satisfy their appetite.

So can the opposite be true as well? Meaning can non-racists or everyday people with less racist convictions (we are all racists right? – it’s just a matter of magnitude and context) in an entertainment driven, materialistic society compartmentalize their lack of racism or non racism in the same way? You see this everyday too. Just look at music. There are a lot of hip hop songs as well as other genres that contain racist lyrics and messages, yet a lot of both young and not so young people listen and enjoy it.

Still this was Nelson Mandela's birthday concert. It's a little different. Could the concert planners be that dumb?

Anyway, what do you boys and girls think?

It's obvious Spin Control and Public Relations by her agents. They fear her losing popularity and, therefore, money and the percentage they get of her earnings.

Personally, theres a certain kind of person that offends me when they are "racist". Someone to look up to, or to be highly thought of. Amy doesn't fall into that category, so her being racist is matched by my indifference.

That could be it except I thought I remembered reading somewhere that she was signed on to perform for NM's concert way back in March. And I thought the infamous video was made public just recently. But besides that point, where were NM's people in any of the planning and negotiations. I imagine there would have been some type of third party representation. Crackhead or racist, when ever she did get put on the list, you would think a better screening process would have been in place. (for music taste too)

Yeah, those people tend to disappoint the most too.

...that, and a certain level of pity at the fact that I don't expect her to live till the end of the year.

This is what many white people are like in the privacy of their homes or when their inhibition is compromised by drugs, actually.

It shouldn't come as a surprise.
