And the media manages to find positive things to say about the guy.

I think those comments came from neighbours and life long acquaintences. And it shows that you never really know who your neighbours are. Oh, and I don't understand the title? What do you mean by Sharp guy?

What I meant was that I dont care if they though he was The Second Coming. Hes not the sort of person you manage to print ANYTHING positive about.

Unless of course you are in some way trying to make his sort...more palatable. As though there must still be some redeeming qualities.

Trust that had he been a person of color there would have been NOTHING in print that would be in ANY way redeeming.

I hear what you're saying about if he wasn't white, they wouldn't say
anything good about him. But I think the "compliments" in this context
are there mostly to cover the asses of the people who might have had
a chance to stop the guy.

"He's so smart and blah blah blah" - police and social services saying
why it took so long to "catch" him especially after Elizabeth complained
about being abused by him before, and it took Fritzl turning himself in
to get the truth about the disappearance!! Not to mention the lack
of follow-up regarding Fritzl's contention that his daughter joined a cult
(what was the name of this organization, where are they located if
they actually existed and etc...)

"He was so nice and handsome back then..." - people who had limited
association with the guy, but still noticed some suspicious activity like
missing food from tenants and a dog constantly barking at the cellar.
People noticed discrepancies in his behavior but chalked it up to an
overactive imagination.

That said the keystones of that town seem kinda naive and too
provincial to have effectively dealt with Fritzl who's likely a true
psychopath. I don't fault them too hard, but I think those guys
need to go back to school.

I still don't get what you're talking about. The neighbours only knew the kind/smart/charming whatever person they talked to everyday. There are tons of people like this where they fool unsuspecting folk. I mean, scandals with priests and child gay pedophilia is a perfect example of this. Patrons don't know the priest as a pedophile, only as the guy that blesses people and says sermons every sunday or whatever.

Kuro is talking about how NBC or the media is show casing this rapist/incest freak normal qualities. In other words make him more human than monster.

The white media has this double standard. I remember when Cho (the shooter for the Virginia Tech) first came out. The media had this stereotypical assertion of Cho. This is more or less true with black people too.

The media decided to paint this picture of this rapist as more human. It's the double standard treatment.

Thing is Cho didn't do a good job of covering his dark side whereas Fritz covered it up for that many years. By committing one of the worst crimes in modern times I don't think its a good idea to add compliments like that even if his neighbours didn't suspect it.

The fact that his neighbours thought he was a respected person makes Fritz's crime even more disturbing, he even planned on building a purpose made dungeon for crying out loud.

My gripe is that white people aren't stereotyped as incestuous, weird freaks as a result of his actions(maybe just Austrians and Germans). However had an Asian did that people would think that all Asians are like that. But hey that's white privilege for ya!!

And don't get me started on the old babies found in the freezer news either:(
