I saw that this is coming out:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/10/movies/10hulk.html

So they're doing a re-remake after Ang Lee screwed it up with his horrible 2003 remake.

I just don't get it. As the article seems to indicate, just about everyone agrees that the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno TV show was the perfect Hulk.

Perhaps the most obvious difference is that the new movie will stick closer to the television show, which is most people’s point of reference for the Hulk. That’s partly why the producers added back the word “incredible” to the title. In another nod, Banner’s eyes glow bright green when he starts to get angry.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it--especially if you're Ang Lee, who makes crazy movies like Crouching Tiger. And what I especially don't get--The Incredible Hulk himself is supposed to be a man, not some fancy computer generated image. Everybody seems to know this except for the guys who are investing hundreds of millions of dollars into making movies. Ang Lee fucked it up royally, so why is this re-remake re-fucking it up again?

yes it is going to be bad. I believe the only movie that is going to be amazing is the DARK KNIGHT. though I am already getting ready for next years movie. They are making a Live action movie GI-Joe. Snake eye looks so dope.

ang lee's hulk was one of the best superhero movies of all time. i know i'm not alone on that and i also know that i'm probably in the minority.

because there's no way they can portray the Hulk as he is portrayed in the comic book by having some overgrown bodybuilder with no CG enhancement star as the Hulk.

and i don't know who these people are who thinks the TV Hulk was "perfect", but while i liked the TV series, i and a lot of comic fans think it's far from perfect, and far from how he is portrayed in the comic book. one thing to note is that it's been about 30 years since the comic book centred the Hulk's portrayal as a child-like savage that calms down at the sight of a lost little girl or a flower out in a field somewhere.

i thought it was OK. i wish he had one of the traditional Hulk villains in there instead. and i didn't like his version of Hulk's origins. actually i don't like the TV version of Hulk's origins. they should stick with the, err, original origins.

That may be the case, but most people I know feel that the series understood the character much better than the comic book, original or current. I was thinking about the original series last night after I posted this, and I think the reason the series was so successful was that people empathized with both David Banner AND the Hulk creature. They were the same person, only at a different level of maturity. Part of the genius of the TV series were the shots of the green Hulk trying to understand what was going on. Plus, Bill Bixby was absolutely brilliant as a good man trying to get rid of his child-like savage.

For me, the talking, mentally competent Hulk just doesn't have the same allure as the twisted relationship between man and Hulk in the series.

^man, i know it's just your opinion but Ang Lee's Hulk is one of those movies that I hold dear to my heart. Strange as it sounds.

So I don't get why people have objections about it.

and then you said this:

The Incredible Hulk himself is supposed to be a man, not some fancy computer generated image.

Which doesn't make much sense to me. The Hulk in the comic books was huge. Way bigger than Lou Ferrigno. The irony is that the computer generated Hulk was absolutely perfect. I think even people who didn't like the movie thought that Ang's Hulk was perfect in every dimension.

It makes me said, literally, that people hated his movie that much. It wasn't a fuck up. Royally or otherwise. It's right up there with Spiderman for me.

eh, actually even that Hulk was more than 10 years ago. :-p

different writers portray the Hulk differently, but the point really is that they've moved away from the Hulk of the 70s. the most brilliant Hulk writer, in my opinion, is probably Peter David. to me, getting some overgrown bodybuilder to star as the Hulk would make the movie laughable.

They definitely wouldn't be able to do it exactly the same way. I was watching re-runs from Netflix, and some of those set stages would be ridiculous by today's standards. So they'd definitely have to improve on it.

Computer generated graphics just seem to ruin the human element. Maybe they'd have to do something that hasn't been done in movies for years--provide good writing and dialogue.

good writing and dialogue would be a plus, but come on, it's a super hero movie. more bam bam, less blah blah.
