I'm thinking of joining a MMA gym near my house. I met the Thai kickboxing instructor at the grocery store the other day- really nice Thai guy, he set a lot of my fears about worsening my bad knees to rest. He teaches at a different location of the same gym but the kickboxing instructor at the closer gym is one of his students that he recommended highly. I obviously won't be able to compete in any way (not that I was considering it), but he was really straightforward about what I can and can't accomplish with my back/knee issues and how to work around them. It's also the same gym where my friend has been training with kettle bells, and he's gotten into incredible shape quickly with that. I'd also love to learn some basic Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. Too bad they don't offer krav maga.
I lost a lot of weight recently and it's taken a big toll on my muscle mass, so I'm looking to build that up. I'd have to really train and eat specifically to gain any mass, which I have no interest in doing. My body has always tended towards just building definition, which is what I want either way. i'd like to be able to see my delts again, because right now, my arms are spindly skinny things. Not good. I like to see muscle and definition in my arms.
I also hate having to ask for help with getting the 50lbs of dog food/cat litter/etc in and out of my shopping cart, etc. When I was in shape, I could do that crap on my own, and I hate having to ask ppl now.
I have extra time now that I'm single, so I figure I'll ferry that extra time into getting really fit again, rather than making and eating ice cream and pastries. Hell, being fit will allow me to make and eat what I want in moderation without fear.
