I'm just wondering. I plan on getting my M.S. in biostatistics at night school, but am wondering if there are any biotech day jobs.

Worse come worse, I substitute teach:( :D

you can for sure, masters is good too. There are still jobs, keep your eye on the want ads in san diego or NorCal... be prepared to pounce once you see an opening. Also, often times it's easier to get a job with a BS than a PHD. The industry is flooded with overpaid PHDs who just can't do squat once in the lab - like performing basic reactions, so persons with that title are often passed up if the job doesn't specifically require PHD level expertise.

As for whether on not there's much left to explore in biotech research to support the industry 5-10 years from now.. there's stem cell.. but I would say a lot of people are seeing the signs and are transitioning out to other related fields like patent law.

edit: wait a minute , I misread your post thinking you were asking "are there any jobs these days?" Instead of "are there any day jobs?"
Well I suppose all biotech jobs are day jobs, but I know in research there can be overtime that may intrude on your night courses, but usual hours are 8-5.

How much experience do you need? I've been going hardcore and haven't had anytime to intern.

Will that trouble me in getting an entry-level job?
How much do they pay? At least 35K to start right?

Yeah, I was thinking of getting my law degree at night, but I don't know if I'd be too happy dealing with boring paper work. But it does pay well.

35k sounds about right I think. I myself am not in biotech, but I have very close friends who are, so I always get the skinny. I don't think not interning is a major setback, but of course it helps. But i'd say working connections is good way to get in. If you don't got any find some, a relative, friend of a friend? Relative of a friend of a friend?

Honestly, everybody I know I either don't have connections or they are poor.

Tough luck for me, lol. I guess I could always teach while I go to night school (ugh).

I know some of my teachers priorly worked in companies. I'm thinking maybe I should get the masters to get close relationships with faculty? (it's a small school I go to (UC Merced), so connections with faculty are easy)

lmao. For that, I just need to wear a skirt, put on some makeup and go on the streets:(

Right now, I'm considering going for a masters in quantitative systems bio or biostatistics (leaning more towards biostatistics)...but I change my mind all the time so who the hell knows
