So I've been having some bad luck recently trying to begin a tattoo project. I've been wanting to get a half-sleeve since pretty much since the year has started, but one Japanese artist here in Seattle I was e-mailing back and forth has decided to travel and up his education until June while another Chinese Canadian guy I was e-mailing in BC has been super busy and hasn't been e-mailed me back in awhile.
Anyways, I've had to content myself to looking at tattoo art online while still scheming what exactly I want for my project... some galleries I like:
(I LOVE the Chinese lions here... rare to see an artist who does them well)
http://www.neojapanese.jp/neojapanese/index.html
(I like the greyshaded tatts here...)
http://www.jefftam.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=arm
(I like the shading and the dragons this guy does...)

Anyone else thinking of getting some ink soon?

I've been thinking about getting a seahorse for my grandma who used to love them. With my other ink I was afraid of my family (mostly my mom) seeing them so they're on my back area. Now I'm older so I don't give a shit. Even so, I still have no idea where I'd put it. And the other thing holding me back is that I'd want an asian-y looking seahorse but I've never seen one that I thought looked how I thought it should.

Seahorse, eh?
Hrmmm, I bet a sufficiently talented artist could come up with something. It's definitely unique.

I've been wanting to get a couple of tattoos that my boyfriend designed on my shoulders, but things didn't work out at the time. The art is pretty much complete, I just have to wait for the right artist.
I also have a half-sleeve in mind, but since the whole piece is cobbled together from different elements I liked from other tattoos (Horiyoshi III's work was an inspiration), I might have to get back in touch with my artist from Melbourne, as he customised my other pieces for me and knows what I like.

I'm looking for an artist to design a simple symbol that represents a werewolf or a half-wolf half-human.
Stylistically, I'd kind of like it to resemble the tattoo in the final scene of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Getting the tattoo will have to wait until I have money, though.

It could be a Merry Xmas and a happy b-day, indeed...

As soon as I get back from this deployment, I've been thinking seriously about getting a variant General Yue Fei's tattoo on my back.

Oh my God that is AWESOME. For that kind of quality work, I'd be willing to fly up to Washington. I have the character for tiger on my chest (I'm a Tiger baby). I'm looking to get an actual tiger on my thigh, my family crest and sakura at some point but I'm still looking for a decent design.

Anyone got a nice tattoo of the Monkey King? I really want to get that on my arm one of these days. Those art above are nice but man they are huge and takes up half of your arm.

nice! tebori?
I wish! It's hard to find an artist here in the US who does it that way... the only shop I know of is Horitaka's State of Grace in San Jose (http://www.horitaka.com/), but there's a THREE year wait for new clients.
My guy used a machine needle and his own mix of inks. I did a lot of research and cold calling (I hate making cold phone calls...) before I decided on his shop. He's Chinese and actually used to be an art teacher in the motherland... totally nice, old uncle type!
Da Wei Tattoo

And TLS... he's in the Bay Area, so you don't have to fly up to WA. I'm in NorCal right now visiting family post-China trip. ;)

Elbow part hurt like a muthasucka (again).
My artist said it's pretty much done, but he wants me to come in again for a short one hour session for extra touch up and detail work. No charge!
(I'm also gonna get my photo taken too, haha.)

3 years? man. I didn't know Tebori artists are in such a high demand. I heard the hand-poking method is really painful.
The former art teacher has done a fantastic job. They look awesome on you, and I like the style of the Chinese characters/name.
I live in an area(on the east coast) where I am lucky if don't get something like this:

LOL.
Yeah, the tebori-style isn't well known outside of the Japan. The guy with the 3 year wait is not only a tebori-capable artist, he's also the only disciple of Horiyoshi III who lives in the US. Maybe someday I'll get a piece by him... maybe I should add my name to the waiting list right now and just be ready in 3 years, hahaha.

Being picky is smart. I mean, you don't want just any fool tattooing you.

^ Yeah, you don't want to wake up after a night of drunkenness and find you've got something embarrassing and worse, not concealable, tattooed on your body. Careful is good.

Whenever I see a dude with a Tweety Bird tattoo, I wonder if it was all done in a drunken bout of retardation...or worse yet, if he chose the tattoo himself because he loves Tweety.

HAHA I had a discussion about that with my husband a few years ago. He said that some men (even the huge "scary" biker dudes) choose Tweety Bird or Bugs Bunny (sp?) because it was, in a sense, a cultural/generational icon from when they were growing up. I didn't understand then and I still don't now. I mean, depending on how you look at it, Sailor Moon could (I guess?) have been a generational icon for me, but you don't see me tattooing her on my arm. (Note: I'm not quite sure about the timing of that because I only saw Sailor Moon in passing occasionally when I lived in Japan in elementary school.)
