I thought there was a thread about this somewhere but I just can't find it.

I really don't want to have my boy circumcised for a variety of reasons but the hubby does. I feel since we are not religious, it is not necessary and males can be trained to clean themselves down there and it is mostly done in this country for cosmetic reasons. The hubby is concerned that uncircumcised boys will be teased unmercifully for looking different and most males are circumcised in this country. I say things were different back when he was a baby and while he sees plenty of circumcised penises in the locker room, I think the percentage is different if it was say a junior high school or high school locker room. I remember the long healing period and excruciating pain one of nephews went through when he was circumcised especially when you didn't put his diaper on right. I just find it really unnecessary but I'm not a guy so I really don't what it's like.

So my informal question is, how many guys here are circumcised and whether you were born in this country. I feel that the judeo-christian norm of this country favors circumcision as the default option and those born outside of the US tend not to get circumcised unless it's for religious reasons.

Born in U.S.A., foreskin chopped.

When I was in grade school, I remember only 1 kid who wasn't circumcised and he caught a lot of grief for it. I attended schools where the student pop was virtually all American born, and the foreign born students were generally girls.

However, in my adult life I know several couples who didn't circumcise their sons. All of them are foreign born but the sons were born stateside. I don't know if the sons live through any grief and I'd be very uncomfortable in asking.

I'm cut and I wasn't born here.

The way I see it, I don't remember the pain in the least, so I'm okay with it. I don't see myself feeling any differently even if I did. I imagine that it's pretty much a non-issue with most guys. People have mentioned in that last thread that there are adverse effects that last well into adulthood, though, so I dunno. I'm not too sure of that, myself.

I know a guy originally from Britain who got circumcised later in life because of complications during sex.

I will answer for my hubby since he is NOT a member.
He was born in COREA to a USA pops / Corean momma. They got him cut. Thank the lord. I only seen ONE guy who was Not cut. I really don't like the looks of it uncut. It looks odd. like it is a diamond in the rough or something.

I knew a Filipina women in Bahrain that had her 5 year old son cut! Poor guy will remember that forever. If you want to get him cut, do it while he is too young to remember. Once they get older, I dought they want to go through with it.

i've noticed that some people abroad don't do it at birth, but wait til right before puberty, or around that time to do it.

i would think that doing it at birth would be a lot better than doing it when you're 14 or something...

I get the same vibe when I look at a vagina that has not been circumcised. It just looks odd and I hate the look of it. A proper woman should have a circumcised vagina.

I hear you. Get those rascals before they get too smart for their own good!

not circumcised and very happy about it!

circumcision is somewhat of an older thing in America which is why the rates at which americans circumcise their sons is gradually going down.

interestingly, in countries like korea, circumcision rates are extremely high.

both my mom (who's a nurse) and my pediatrician (growing up) felt it was unnecessary. in fact, it's only done in america anymore simply for aesthetic purposes or in extreme medical conditions.

as far as it being unsanitary, that's ridiculous. as long as you take a shower/bath everyday and wash your body like a normal person, all will be well.

"diamond in the rough"? probably not the phrase to use in a case like this and when you saw an uncircumcised penis, was it not erect? honestly, with an erect penis and the skin retracted, it looks very much like a cut penis.

anyone ever watched a video of a child being circumcised? not the most pleasant (or humane)
experience.

i suppose i forgot to mention i was born in seoul and probably not circumcised because i lived in an orphanage for a few months before i was adopted. though, that didn't really matter as the people who adopted me were anti-circumcision anyway.

Unnecessary and cruel to perform, especially on babies who are much more sensitive to pain than older children.
Uncut and all there.
