Why do people always think their racism is secret? Newsflash! It is VERY obvious to anyone around you who doesn't BLIND themselves to it.

This week on PostSecret (http://postsecret.blogspot.com), someone sent in a card that says "I'm racist and I have children with color! And I love them."
The permanent link is here: http://bp0.blogger.com/_a7jkcMVp5Vg/RpmXsWNcnfI/AAAAAAAABM8/wwnSwNfm_UY/s1600-h/color.jpg

I'm betting my level 70 WoW character that the postcard writer will one day tell his/her kids "You're not like the rest of those <blank>. I think of you as white."

Someone e-mailed a reply to this postcard saying:
"I am a racist and I am in a long-term relationship with someone of a different race. It's hard because you know you're wrong for feeling that way, but you just cant help it."

I wish I knew how to send e-mails to PostSecret, because then I'd tell the e-mail writer that he/she CAN help it, but not without some work on their part. Oh, and to break up with his/her significant other.

Hahaha, Ike the online race counselor!

Yes, they can help it, but they would need to do a lot of learning and introspection first, more than they'd be willing to invest, I'd bet. Even a lot of people who surround themselves with racial discourse don't have anywhere near a clear idea of what they're feeling or what this race thing is all about.

Plus, it's unclear to a lot of people what "racism" (like "religion" as another example) actually is. Things are very confused, and propositions about "The New Racism" which involves systemic observations with no actual intention just make things even more muddled.
