Anyone catch this over the weekend? Strike Force Match: Cung le vs Tony Fryklund (http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/cung%2Ble/video/x2cpal_strikeforce-cung-le-vs-tony-fryklun)

This fight is awesome. Cung Le is incredible. His speed and power are... well, to use a cliche, Bruce Lee-like. Fryklund is pretty fast himself but look at how Le easily ducks and dodges his attacks. I'm pretty sure he could have knocked him out in the first round but I think he was really toying with him and trying to give the crowd a good show. And what a show, listen to all the people yelling his name in respect and admiration. This is definitely one bad ass Asian brother.
For all the TKD haters out there, notice how he controls the match with largely TKD side kicks, spinning back kicks, and front kicks. He incorporates other styles but he is fundamentally a TKD fighter and possibly the best one in MMA.

Check out his website: http://www.cungle.com/sv/html/website/WebSite_8/m_main.jsp?&id=8

Here's some eye candy for the ladies on this site (and you too, D, you know you like it). Abs much?

Strikeforce took place in San Jose, pretty much in his backyard I believe. There are alot of Vietnamese in that area and they pretty much all cheer for Cung.

About the fight, I think it's time they give him someone halfway decent. I'm not sure he would get away with those types of kicks in the UFC because he's begging to be taken down. I was just disappointed because Tony Fryklund didn't come to fight at all, just stood there and didn't even try for a take down. I wanna cheer for Cung but only if he's not being fed these tomato cans.

^ There's a lot of conjecture floating on the Internet by trolls and obvious white redneck bigots that the fight was a work, based on the sheer and utter domination of all opposition Le has barreled through. That's total bullshit with no basis, but I do see where they are coming from. Le needs to face some more fighters with higher skill levels, more grappling experience, and just all around tougher competition before he's gonna shut all his critics up (if he even cares).

I'm not one for nutriding, but I won't lie, seeing an Asian guy make it into MMA, as a fellow Asian fighter myself, is great for the ego :p

Give him time, this was his what, third fight in MMA? All three were wins by knockout. Plus he does have a wrestling background.
Here are his other MMA fights:
Vs Altman, Strike Force debut (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXQfGVcwbd8) Look at the impact at 4:55, look at the knockout!!!

Vs Warren, Strike Force second fight (http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/cung%2Ble/video/xsogy_cung-le-vs-brian-warren-strike-forc) Look what happens when Warren tries to grapple high with him. That is one of the best throws ever. Shanshou has great throws and takedowns. He just needs to learn the submissions.

I see where you're coming from but for me just being there isn't enough. Being there and getting your asskicked is not a good thing. And that's pretty much all that I've seem from Asians in the octagon.

The last guy that really really impressed me was Nam Phan. He was in a KOTC tournament and was so close to being crowned champion after going 3 rounds with the reigning champ Rob Mccullough. Everyone thought Rob was gonna walk right through him but Nam took him to the limits in a match most people thought, incuding the commentators, should have had an extended round. The man had heart and an iron chin. It's too bad he got KTFO in his most recent match within seconds of the first round.

But anyway, yeah, I wanna see Asian guys wtih some explosive skills and not just be there to get stomped on.

He's 4-0 now.

Oh, I completely understand what you're saying, that's exactly why it prides me to see Cung Le step up and change it.

And I'm guessing you refer to Asians in the UFC... It's like every time it matters, we get killed by, you guessed it, a white champion. Sakurai, Uno, Okami, it's brutal.

Then there's Andy Wang, which I really don't want to get into here.

Nice video links! The guy has some crazy speed, especially with the combinations.

I totally saw the punch knockout in the second fight coming... why the the hell did the guy stick his head out close to the end, taunting Le? He ended up getting owned hard... must have taken at least a half-dozen shots to the face before he hit the mat.
