Somebodys feelin that nostalgia bug eh??
"I can dream about you" - Dan Hartman? I can do better than remember it, my hand just wavered over the DVD of STREETS OF FIRE last week!! Had I rented it it wouldve been like the 20th time or so that Ive seen it.
Are there any white women hotter than Diane Lane *even now*?
Ill admit I had mad crush on a few of them growing up...
Olivia Newton John .... (Hell...XANADU? Nothing beats a fantasy girl like a MAGICAL fantasy girl... That of course includes Jeannie (Animated version...had red hair!), and on principle Samantha from Bewitched...who actually had WONDERFUL body...but they hid it on TV. You have to rent those old flicks to see it) Anyway...ONJ blew my high in her "lets get physical" stage as I went through a chubby phase at that point. Bad timing!
Virginia Madsen .... Electric Dreams... between her and the computer whose name I dont recall... that was magic enough!
Princess Leia ... I didnt even know she was smuggling produce under that robe! But something about her did it for me. Maybe hot chicks and X-wing fighters??
The French Girl from Better Off Dead... not magical perse...but how many girls you know that can transform dogpoop into a shiny, firebreathing 1967 Camaro SS?
Tabitha from Bewitched...not the child, but Lisa Hartmann when she had that show in...1980? Tabitha as a young woman...
Adrienne Barbeau.... Escape From New York, Swamp Thing, ...Fantasy Island...nuff said.
Dark Haired Chick from Battlestar Galactica. Not Athena... not frizzy blond Casseiopeia <sp?>...but there was a third girl who flew Vipers... cant recall her name.. and she wasnt the sexiest on the show...but she was for me.
Fine Young Cannibals...what happened to them??

I'm very bad with names, but good with tunes, so recognizing songs based on a list of titles/bands is hard for me. Off the top of my head, I recognize all these and/or have them in my MP3 library.

Jane Child Don't Wanna Fall In Love
Jesus Jones right Here right Now
EMF Unbelievable

Everlasting Love Howard Jones

How about this list of crap I culled from my iTunes just now... All stuff from the 90's or earlier. Some with one hit wonders, some slightly more lasting, some real groaners, but no super well known bands (possibly fill a decent sized performance hall at their peak for two weekend shows, but nothing near a sellout multiple shows on a multi-week run or stadium crowd), or at least not known for that type of music, some known but very niche market.
4 Non Blonds - Train
Alphaville - Forever Young
Anything Box - Living in Oblivion
Bauhaus - She's in Parties
Bikini Kill - Rebel Girl
Camouflage - The Great Commandment

Midnight Oil - Blue sky Mine
I love MO- the frontman PG's now a up-and-coming player in the Liberal Party in Oz (and not as progressive as he used to be, it seems). The Dead Heart and King of the Mountain is my other favorite. I saw them when they performed for Surfriders foundation way back when.

I don't really have a period where I feel nostalgic about, but I do have a few singles in my hard drive that might be considered nostalgic, I guess. I just like anything with a funky beat.
All Good (Can 7 Supermarket Remix) - De La Soul featuring Chaka Khan
All I Do - Stevie Wonder
A Rose Is Still A Rose - Aretha Franklin featuring Lauryn Hill
Because I Got It Like That - Jungle Brothers
Buddy X - Neneh Cherry
Chocolate Sensation - a remix of Loleatta Holloway's "Love Sensation" by Lenny Fontana and DJ Shorty

Just Gets Better - TJR featuring Xavier
Last Night A DJ Saved My Life (Francois K Klassic Radio Edit) - Indeep

Professional Widow (Armand Van Helden Helden Star Trunkin' Radio Edit) - Tori Amos
Pull Up To The Bumper - Grace Jones
Say A Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin

Sexy Boy (Cassius Remix) - Air
She's A Bad Mamma Jamma - Carl Carlton
Teardrops - Lovestation
Tearin' It Up (Larry Levan Vocal Remix) - Chaka Khan

You Got The Love - Candi Staton
That playlist really makes me look like a club kid. Almost everything's a remix or a 70s house/garage tune.

Level 42 is great! I also liked the UB40/Pretenders "I got you babe" collaboration.
When I was a kid, I would always mix up Men without hats and Men at Work. I know, lame, but as I've said, I'm bad with names! That dyslexia kicking in.
I should have also put in Everything but the Girl, Fugazi...
Going into the very beginning of 2000 and staying with fairly obscure, how about Ladytron, Le Tigre, Mogwai and Queens of the Stone Age?
I think part of the reason I like the well known John Cusack films so much is that they always have so many old 80's songs. High Fidelity, Grosse Point Blank. But then, I guess I like his films without the 80's soundtracks also, but a good 80's soundtrack really gives a movie a good boost, like Six String Samurai, Wedding Singer, Trainspotting, Donnie Darko. Nostalgia music films...

Ladytron - 17
Le Tigre - Decepticon
Queens Of The Stone Age - In My Head
Are they really obscure? I figured they just didn't hit Britney-style levels of fame. But then all I've heard from them were in remixes/mash-ups. I've never really heard anything from Mogwai, though.
Lum

Mogwai's alright, but maybe not yer thing Jade...guitar noodlers. They're like Godspeed-lite.
I know there aren't many wavers/shoegazers here, but Loveless by My Bloody Valentine is quite possibly the best damn guitar record of the 90's. It coulda come out yesterday and still be cool. Only thing on it resembling a single is "Soon", though. :)

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine... fuck! forgot about that one. I'll hafta go find it now...

I don't think I can be nostalgic for something that I wasn't around for the first time, but I've been in an 80's ballad mood today.
Sister Christian, Jessie's Girl, Don't Stop Believing...

Kuro, I thought your first thread was about music videos. For a while I was lamenting my repressive childhood without MTV and all the sexed up videos. I do remember Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher," which did me in pretty well until I looked at my own teacher at school.
Catty, yeah, "Domino Dancing" and "Left to My Own Devices" are both on introspection, which I think is one of their best albums! Remeber "Alright"? What a great tune! I played it once at the end of a hectic house night at the Roxy (Boston), and it surprising worked really well. But I still remember a documentary with an interview with Frankie Knuckles, and he mentioned his remix of "Left to My Own Devices," and there is a beautiful image of a disco with people grooving to that song. Gosh! There is also a Plastic Avengers remix of "I Want to Wake Up" (from another album), which took the hook from the last part of that song and loops it. It's called "Welcome to the Future."
Funny, while I was listening to Pet Shop Boys I was also listening to death metal. I pretty much kept it from letting all my skater friends know that I listen to PSB. And it was only about 2 years ago that someone told me they are a gay act.
Minbo- great tunes!
Catty (second list). Aqua??!!! AHHH!!!! And I thought you...Oh, my head....:D
Jade Dragon- Smashing list, with some great house tunes. I used to shop at Vinyl Mania in NYC, where they would have tons of pictures of Larry Levan in the store. RIP. I actually get more of a nostalgic bug from 90's house tunes. "Disco Revenge" reminds me of my first trip to London and my sister would bring me to clubs as opposed to national monuments. I only saw Big Ben when I was in a cab coming home from a long night.
"Sexy Boy"- Cassius's mix is awesome--what about Beck's remix?
Le Tigre- Decepticon- only heard the DFA remix, but loves it
Stepping back, anyone like:
Peter Murphy-Roll Call
The Pixies- anything from them
Kool and the Gang- Fresh
The Commodores- Machine Gun
Bad Brains- Sacred Love
Bad Brains- House of Suffering
Megadeth- the Conjury
Q Lazarus- Goodbye Horses (original Silence of the Lambs version)
Evelyn Thomas- High Energy
Losoul- Lies (Watch Your Lift)
CAN- Vitamin C (both original and U.N.K.L.E remix will do)
DJ Krush- Meiso (DJ Shadow remix)
Taylor Presents Libra- Calling Your Name
Chaka Khan- Ain't Nobody
Nightwriter- Let the Music Use You
Deep Dish- Dreams

Silkie! Great tunes! My fave commodores - Night Shift (so pedestrian, i know) , Brick House and Easy (Like Sunday Morning). LOOOOVE the Pixies. Bad Brains, Megadeath....
Funny you mention that. We were going through a Death Metal phase at the same time... man, my DM friends used to roast me over the open fire for even mentioning that I liked PSB's cover/medley of "Where The Streets Have No Name" and Frank Sinatra's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." I loooved Depeche Mode's Violater and Erasure's Chorus, so yeh, I was ribbed rather often for liking "fluff". I've found that as of late, I still love metal but damn, I can't listen to it for hours on end anymore, and headbanging gives me a bad headache.
Kool and the Gang- holy shit!!!!!!!! Celebration! Are you old enough to remember De Barge (Rhythm of the Night). Kajagoogoo- Too Shy. If anyone remembers, the lead singer of Kajagoogoo did the made soundtrack tune to the movie Neverending Story.

Ahh, in regards to the "fairly obscure", I meant what I wrote, but did not write what I meant. They are not incredibly obscure, but I don't think that they are widely known, hence the 'fairly obscure". It seems that everyone I run into is a "top 40's" "light rock" "whatever is playing on the crappiest radio station in the spectrum" fan. I have gradually but firmly come to the conclusion that the masses are an ignorant, badly behaved, smelly, sweaty lot with poor music tastes, and everyone I associate with in real life or online are members of the elite 99% of the population in some way, mostly good.
I once went out with a girl who had never heard of New Order. I had not known that people like that who actually went to college existed in America.
Can't believe that I forgot the Pixies!
While I have never thought to myself to go out of my way to listen to them, when they are are on I do enjoy them... Aqua definitely belongs in Kuro's guilty pleasure music thread, along with Right Said Fred.

Dude, no time like the present.
I used to watch my roommates play GTA Vice City for hours on end. They kept asking if I wanted to try it and I'd say "nah, just put the new wave station back on." Hee!

girl who had never heard of New Order
Regret and Love Vigilantes are my faves!!!!!!
Wha? Also, anything by Joy Division brings back really terrible times in my life but I still love their shtuff.
I love aimee Mann's solo stuff, but god I still love Til Tuesday's Voices Carry.
also, Tori Amos' Crucify brings back lots of bad memories of my ex. Great song, but nostalgic in a bad way.
Sundays- I have good memories of Here's Where The Story Ends
Social D- Ball and Chain (that was my fave smoking tune back in high school).
Actually have a few of the Orbital's stuff- I *liked* the Saint soundtrack (don't kill me).
Oh, and I don't know about anyone here, but I really like STP's freshman album. Sex Type Thing is a rockin' tune man.
10k Maniacs- I love Trouble Me and the enitre album, actually.
Smiths- How Soon Is Now
Siouxie and the Banshees- Kiss Them For Me. i used to love playing Siouxie after all the drunks are out and the bar's empty while I smoked and cleaned up the bar (the little dive bar I was at let me smoke indoors as soon as the custies were out).
Concrete Blonde- Bloodletting was a great album. I loved Tomorrow, Wendy. that was my boarding school days, late at night. My roomie and I would make screwdrivers and smoke while listening to this album. good times.
jim Carroll Band- People Who died
alice in chains- they were actually my fave grunge band. RIP Les. I don't think I've heard anything by them that I didn't like.
Sublime- their remake of GD's Scarlet Begonias on 40 oz to Freedom- that entire album rocked.
Big Audio Dynamite- I freakin' loved Looking for a Song.
Soupdragons- Divine Thing.

Le Tigre- Decepticon- only heard the DFA remix, but loves it
The Sex Kino mix by Beck is pretty good too, if a little sluggish for my discofied tastes; I'll always like the Cassius one better, hee. But Beck's own work is great, and "The New Pollution" will always have a place on my playlists.
And because I like sharing, here's a mash-up of Le Tigre's "Decepticon (DFA Remix)" with Rod Stewart. =D It's by this New York guy, DJ Lobsterdust.
