I'm Japanese, but I'm suspicious as hell of ANY country trying to teach Patriotism, and Japan's no exception. I just have a feeling it's another WEDABEST-NANANANANA shit. In fact, I'll bet money it will be, i'm so confident.

I think it will just reinforce the attitude in Japan already - Japanese are superior to all other nations - but inferior to white people.
There's no way they can counteract the American media machine.

On Monday, Japan's upper house of parliament passed a bill setting out steps for holding a referendum on revising the country's pacifist constitution, which has not been changed since 1947.
Drawn up by the US occupation authorities after WWII, it bans military force in settling international disputes and prohibits maintaining a military for warfare.
But the government wants Japan to be more assertive on the world stage, with a military able to take part in peacekeeping missions abroad.
Ha. A lot of people still remember the last time Japan was "more assertive on the world stage."

Here we go again.

This is why Asia will never be able to counter white hegemony. They can't get along and are too busy "one upping" other Asians.
Conan O'Brian said something about Japan that made me laugh.
"Japan: You guys would kick our asses and never fled from a battle. Now, you make Hello Kitty toasters."

Abe is an idiot.
Japanese schools should teach more civics, not empty patriotism. I totally don't understand the way politics in Japan works, and most Japanese I've talked to don't get it either... they just seem really confused, disgusted and apathetic about the system, to an even greater extent than American voters.

China and SK would just use this to further stir anti -Japanese sentiment.
The ruling politicians don't give a rats ass about all the other Asian nations. They only care about US’s opinion.
The Japanese people need to wake up and smell the coffee. If the politicians keeps pissing off China, Korea, and other Asian nations, one day, when US loses their influence of East Asia stage to China. Japan would be truly alone, surrounded by nations who don’t like them.
Even Australia, an Anglo nation all the way down south is smart enough to know pissing off China now will not be a good idea for the long run.

'When' the U.S. looses its influence? China is still far from surpassing the United States in far more than economy. They have so far to go with learning policies to interact internationally, that should they surpass the United States tomorrow they would likely surpass the resentment of the U.S. within a few years. Additionally, they are following the traditional route of Industrialization meaning they need a massive amount of material resources and especially oil. The Chinese continually attempt to establish ties with Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, really they're becoming nothing more than the U.S. ver. 2.0. Some say it is just as likely they may go bankrupt if they attempt to shoot forward without accommodating the large debt they will make in acquiring resources.
In African, South American, and parts of Asia they were welcomed at first. Now with their opposition to stop the conflicts in Darfur, which could endanger their contracts, they are just beginning to build resentment almost parallel to the U.S.
Not to mention India, with it's rising economy and influence which is expect to excel as much as China.
Personally, I think it would be terrible for 'racial' tensions if China surpasses the U.S. You may gripe about the inequality here, though think of one of the other minority groups trying to live the same way in China? Isn't the country over 90% Han? Compare this to 60-70% 'white' in the U.S. I continue to hope that America remains the major Super Power, it is so far ahead of Russia, India, China, and other major powers in terms of civil liberties. Also, the racial divides here are even beginning to disappear with the rise of egalitarian values and interracial marriages. I think this sums it up, "It's hard to be racist when the 'other' is part of your family."

You don't think so?
If nothing else, look at statistics:
From the 70's to 2005-
Black/Other .01% in 70's to .1% in 2005 or a 900% increase.
White/Other .2% in 70's to 1.7% in 2005 or a 750% increase.
White/Black .1% in 70's to .4% in 2005 or a 300% increase.
Hispanic/Other .6% in 70's to 2.2% in 2005 or a 267% increase.
It is also calculated that almost 7% of the 59 million marriages in the United States are interracial. This amounts to tens of millions of biracial children.
I wonder if this would even register with other Asian groups in a place like China. Hell, if a Chinese person married an African they would probably be treated as a pariah. Personally, I think the U.S. has far more accepted egalitarian values than any of the other major powers.
Of course, I'm just 'preaching to the choir' if you meant it's not hard to discriminate against a member of your own family based on 'race.'

You are right; there is no guarantee that China wouldn't just collapse on itself tomorrow. However, given the trend, there is a very real possibility China will indeed become USA ver 2.0 within couple of decades, along with all the prestige, arrogance, and international disdain that comes with being a super power.
But in regard to Japan, if China does become USA ver 2.0, that’s a USA 2.0 that is next door and who doesn’t like you. Can Japan really afford that? Japan is putting all their eggs in the same basket, which is the USA, and as the saying goes, never put all your eggs in the same basket.
As for the racial dynamic of China, IMO it really deserve its own thread. China never had to deal with being multi racial country because for as far as any one can remember, China had always been a fairly homogenous country (With very few exception, every Chinese is an East Asian). Although, I got to admit, if this ever changes, it would indeed be interesting to watch the effects.
PS. Han and white comparison is not really good. All the other tribes, excluding the Uyghurs and couple others, are all physically indistinguishable from a Han.
A more accurate comparison would be Han are like the British White, while the other tribes are like Irish or Russian white. Different, but not visible minoirity.
