Kudos. That is an EXCELLENT article. It doesn't excuse actions but rather explains them and their root cause. Great writing. Great reasoning. Simply excellent.
And as a woman of color I'd like to add that there are more of us opposed to this music than what is represented in the media. We are not all proud and happy to bounce it like beyonce while the fellas treat us like meat.
Dr. Dre himself is glorified like he is a God but he is one of the biggest posers in rap music. He talked in one article about how he tried to make an album without all the bitches and ho's and he made a video of him dancing in a cotton clublike place and he tried to be all creative and nobody bought it so he went back to profanity and gangsta crap. But all his fans swear he's the real deal. If he was the real deal he wouldn't have even tried to go that route. He's just going the route that sells. yeah that's real authentic. I hope more people in the media start calling these guys on their crap because we have been doing it for years but our little black voices are drowned out by corporate america who likes to sell the image that we are all "down" with this shit.
And peace out to my sisters at Spellman college who shut Nelly down when he called himself coming to their campus to put on an event to raise money for his sister. Unfortunately she was sick but the women at Spellman were not about to let this misogynistic (sp?) bastard make money off them. But the media will not blow up episodes like that. Go figure.

Nelly is one of the mouthpieces in the industry who thinks it's okay for blacks to use certain language but when others use it it's different.:mad:
I think nelly was also looking for a donor for his sister and using the concert as a charity event to sign up blood donors. But his tip drill video pushed the spelman sisters over the edge and they were not having it. They did not allow him to come to a college full of black women and spew the very crap that helps to throw us in a negative light.
