Anybody been there before? I hear that the unspoiled scenery is to die for, but there's actually really a chance that you might die for it. My uncle went on this tour that involves walking on a cliff side with steps barely carved into the mountain, with nothing but a handrail or a chain to keep you from a fall to your death. It got me intrigued, of course. It'll be an extremely stupid way to die, but it sure sounds like the trip of a lifetime.

I've been there. That was the first and only time I've been to China... it was 1990. My dad and I went on a tour of Southern China and went to Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing and Huangshan. Huangshan was easily my favorite place. It helped that it was August and the cities we visited were roasting hot while Huangshan was refreshing and cool.
It's incredibly gorgeous. I recommend the hike/pilgrimage over the mountains and the overlook to the sea of clouds. The main route isn't dangerous at all, maybe your uncle gets vertigo easily or went on some side track. I saw all kinds of old ladies walking the route wearing high heels.
