WASHINGTON -- A former Washington state sheriff's deputy has been arrested in Hong Kong, accused of being one of the world's most notorious child molesters.
Kenneth Freeman, 44, was arrested Tuesday night by Chinese authorities, based on information from the United States.
Freeman is accused of raping his own daughter and then posting video of the attack on the Internet.
Officials said it was one of the most widely downloaded child porn videos of recent years.
A break in the case came after the Web video was featured on "America's Most Wanted."
Freeman is being held in Hong Kong. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Marshals Service says Freeman will eventually be returned to the United States for trial.
His daughter is now a teenager who campaigns against child sexual abuse. She has appeared on television to tell her story.
Chris Peale, the girl's stepfather, said at a news conference that she deserves the most credit for tracking Freeman down.
"We're rejoicing today. An awful man, an evil man has been captured," Peale said, glancing at his now-17-year-old stepdaughter, who smiled during the event but did not speak.
"Without her strength and conviction, this would never have happened," Peale said.
Authorities in Turkey, Greece and China helped U.S. officials track Freeman, who officials said was an avid bodybuilder and computer expert who volunteered in the 1980s as a reserve sheriff's deputy in southeast Washington's Benton County.
