Don Ho has passed away. We had just gotten a color TV (yes, children, there was a time when TV was not digital nor were your choices LCD or PDP but rather B&W or color) for the first time. That was when I first saw Don Ho. Fitting too as his sets were colorfully done with Hawaiian motif flowers and props.
It was a small part of my chidhood but there he was, singing and entertaining old white folks and looking, well, maybe not exactly like me per se but a little and at least not like them. Yet, they loved him. Don Ho was an icon in his time.
Rest well Don Ho. I'll always remember that first color TV and your cheesy show with fondness.
