The last time I was in HK, I was there for a stopover, so I basically checked into the hotel, ate @ the night market, then went back to the hotel, flew out once I woke up.

My friend is moving back to HK at the end of the year. I may fly out to HK, but I'll pretty much be on my own (she'll be working most of the time).

I don't know if Spring would be a better time to visit- if then, I'll postpone until next spring. Either way, what time of the year is best in terms of cool weather? Also, any rec'd of "must-see" spots would be awesome. Again, I'm avoiding heat. My heart hates hot weather and the last thing I want is a PVC attack on foreign soil.

I was in Hong Kong and South China a long time ago, 1991, during August. I thought I was fine in any kind of tropical weather, but the heat and humidity was just a whole new level of insanity. I don't remember hardly any of Hong Kong in daylight because our dive hotel didn't have A/C and I was busy trying not to get heatstroke. I spent all the days in the hotel 6 inches away from the fan, watching Jackie Chan movies and America's Funniest Home Videos, or else treading water in the gigantic lukewarm municipal swimming pool surrounded by screaming little kiddies. I saw some of the neighborhoods after dark, took a ferry ride, went to the night market... it's very beautiful and I'd like to go back, but not in August.

is the weather like Florida summers or worse? I really want to go, but it seems either summer or winter for me,

how much would it cost to stay in HK for a week?

I used to live in Miami and also in Central Florida where it's even hotter than Miami due to no sea breeze... but Hong Kong in August felt much hotter than anywhere in Florida, or even southern inland Mexico for that matter... then again, it might have been during a heat wave that I was there.

Some parts of China we visited were hotter, like Nanking. Every morning I would follow the example of other Chinese and tie a wet towel on top of my head, and within an hour it would be bone dry and I'd have to wet it again.

Catty last time I went was in November and that was perfect. I heard March is pretty nice too. Must-see spots include the Kowloon ferry terminal and the Buddhist monestary on Lantau island. I've been wanting to go back. If I can save up enough $$, I will shamelessly invite myself on your trip ;)
