No, they couldn't really care either way; this sort of cultural adoption comes from the rise of kung-fu movies in the seventies and American Black culture's almost instanteous acceptance and reverence for them, because they could relate to the little guy who all the white folks disrespected, and who rose up through training and discipline and physicality. 36 Chambers, baby!

In terms of Media History, the rise of Kung-fu movies and so-called 'Blaxploitation' flicks were indeed parallel movements or genre in the 70's.

So being exposed to one genre naturally led to being exposed to the other genre.
