So while we wait for D to post here, what's on your face?
A few weeks ago I bought Smashbox's O-glow:

It's like a new take on the whole mood makeup thing. The color is changes on me looks just like blushing if I used a little. Now, knowing how I am, I decided to experiment and rub it all over my face...looked like I got a light sunburn. It's ok, but not worth the money. I don't like gel blushes anyway.
I also got Two Faced's liquid glitter liner in drunk dial:

This is a lot of fun. It has blue gel and blue and green and shimmery glitter in it. I was a total rebel and wore it to work, and everyone loved it! It's fun, but I can't figure out a good color combination that maximizes the color w/o looking cheesy.
I thought I would post my one staple--Bare Escentuals mineral makeup. This stuff is awesome for oily skin/large pore types. It has good coverage without looking cakey and smooths out larger pores. On me, it looks completely natural. I've heard on dry skin though, you need a good moisturizer.

I don't wear cosmetics on a daily basis but when I do, it's usually MAC products. My MAC lady just showed me how to apply false eyelashes so I've been experimenting lately.
Also, I became sort of bitter about moisturizing/wearing a sun screen when I realized that you have to reapply sun screen after a couple of hours. So for a while I didn't wear any, but now I'm making an effort, but I'm still pissed that you have to reapply.

I think, depending on your colouring, you could either go for a taupe or an earthy brown eyeshadow. Neutrals would work because they'll take a backseat to all that shimmery colour.

Do you use a kabuki brush with that? I've read very good reviews about BE make-up, and I wish I could order some, but I don't know if they'll ship to my corner of the world without charging exorbitant fees. *sigh*
As for me, I use mostly drugstore stuff with some MAC thrown in.
Eyes: I can't live without eyeliner, and I love the Prestige waterproof pencils. They have a crayon-like texture, which is great for oily eyelids. I often use black, but I'll mix it up with green or gold sometimes. Eyeshadows are also from Prestige, and a few from Kanebo, because they sell them cheap here.
Face: I used Revlon Colourstay foundation, but since the old shades have changed, I'm planning to forgo it altogether because my skin isn't as bad as it used to be. I hide my undereye circles with MAC Select in NW20. I don't wear blush because I have a tendency to blush anyway.
Lips: Anything goes here, and I'll even mix shades to get a colour that I want. My staples are MAC Viva Glam V, Anna Sui Rouge in #571, and Pink Diamonds from the Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds range.

Jade, where is your corner of the world? I could pick some up for you and mail it. I don't trust regular airmail, but I could :)
I got the starter pack which has the kabuki, the concealer, and then a medium sized brush. I used the medium sized brush for the foundation and the kabuki for the mineral veil (finishing powder.) The kabuki lays it on a bit thick for my taste, but if you need or want full coverage, it works well.

i don't wear makeup either 'cause i'm lazy, but i do love wondercurl mascara. and sometimes, i'll wear smeared black eyeliner or this lovely makeup forever blue metallic liquid eyeliner (discontinued, the fuckers) for this punk effect.
i really should put in more effort, though. at least i put some lip balm on this morning.

I live in Brunei, which is pretty much halfway around the world from North America. The cost of shipping is probably prohibitive, and postal security here is such that everything will be opened and examined by customs. I'll most likely be going to Canada sometime in September this year, so I'll pick some up then. Thanks for the offer, though, Angi. :)
Does anyone love those little make-up palettes, like the Face Cases from Urban Decay? I usually buy them because they're so pretty, and I can't bear to use them at times. I think it appeals to some childish part of me to have all these colours in a "paintbox" or something. I would totally move to North America just to have access to a Sephora. :P

I'm the same way with new make up palettes. They look so nice and pristine, I don't want to stick my brushes into them and ruin them. I received an urban decay palette a while ago and it took me a long time to dig into it. Once I did though, I realized that the lip gloss colors look stupid on me, and the eyeshadows were very similar to other colors I already own. Luckily this was a gift, but I sort of wish I hadn't ruined it so I could have re-sold it on ebay.

Yeah, I really like Bare Escentuals too! Right now, I wear Nars concealer (under eyes), Benefit Eye Bright (under eyes, inner eye, brow bone), Lancome Definicils mascara (which I hate and don't recommend; I don't know why people like this shit), lots of Lancome Juicy Tubes lipgloss.

Really? You have to reapply? I always thought that as long as you didn't sweat too much, you were ok. Well, here's what I use: For normal days when I'm not going to sweat, I slather on Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 55. It's greasy enough that I don't use a moisturizer underneath.
Ok, so when I'm going to sweat a lot or it's one of those crazy East Coast summer days, I use Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF 55. I may use a light moisturizer under this depending on the condition of my skin. I SHIT YOU NOT: This Shiseido suncreen is seriously the best sunscreen I've ever used and does not come off. They even sell a special remover for it. But that's also the downside of this stuff - even after I've washed my face, I still feel like there's sunscreen on it.

I read that you have to reapply sunscreen every two hours, and if you're swimming reapply every 40 minutes. I think that's with constant exposure though.

This is a GREAT question!
I wear loose powder also.
My make up is added after I wash with my Apricot face wash.
I have to use certain brands though. Can't use the cheap drug store make up.
Mary kay concealer, well it is really foundation.
Cliniqe , pore minimizor items
Then to top it off after I have my face powder on.
I go for my lip gloss!
I have so many kinds. As long as it has Glitter or flavor in it, I will buy it!!
I have some from Avon, Rimmel, Blistex ( Fruit smoothies), Chococat lip gloss..and so many more.
I won't get started on my nails.."
I have tons of CLEAR polish from Sally Hansen..." She is RICH because of me!!

I don't wear makeup, partially out of laziness and partially because I end up eating/smearing it during the day. Once in a while, I'll remember to apply chapstick or at the work holiday party I might use some TRUE mineral blush/lip gloss. But Oil of Olay Complete with SPF 15 is pretty much all I do on a daily basis.
Before getting married, I wore Shidedo makeup products everyday for a month to get used to it but when I got the pictures back, I was horrified to find that my powder foundation was too light and I looked like a ghost in some of the pictures. Since then, I've been hesitant to make that plunge to invest in some decent makeup.
My question is do you have "winter" and "summer" makeup to go with your complexion? In winter, I'm pale but turn olive/tan during the summer despite slathering suncreen and wearing hats.

I should have known vsoy, that you DID'NT wear make up. But, your face is SO pretty!! That is why I thought you did. I wish I did not have to wear it. I get a pimple and the darn spot take about two weeks to get rid of with my AMBI cream.
Oh, in the winter my skin is ok, not much make up is needed. But, the darn summer is CRAZY!! Skin gets all oily and I hate to go outside in the sunlight with my make up on. I always end up getting the oil to BREAK through my make up some how. It is going to be a PAIN while I am here...

I used to wear mac pressed powder in the winter, because I got lighter in complexion. In the summer, I wore clinique pressed powder. I also wore mac eyeliner. Stress on the used to.
Now, I wear mascara(covergirl fantastic lash) on almost daily basis, and I don't wear any other powders or stuff. Sometimes I'll put on The Body Shop liquid eyeliner, if my hand is feeling steady. I go around with an almost naked face most of the time.
About sunscreen, Dirac is right. It's important to reapply, especially when you're at the beach.

I'm finally coming to terms with my femininity and now that I found out that you can put on make-up with tiny little brushes its just a lot better.
And since my sister is currently raking in the cash, she's splurging on crap like dropping 200 on shoes whenever she wants and sometimes she buys me little cosmetics.
One of the more recent gifts were these Smashbox Tokidoki lip gloss brush things in dolcissismwtfever and dramatica. The dolce color works better for my skin tone I think mostly because I like nudey coralish colors in lipsticks and sometimes pinks too. And it actually makes my lips look like they're one color. Which makes me feel better since I've had issues with my bottom lip being this baby's pink color yet it looks like my upper lip got fried or something. It hurts one when guys ask, "...Why are your lips two different colors?"
I wanna wear those eyeliners you can apply with a brush too, especially black since my eye lacks definition on the bottom and it makes me look odd in photos. I wouldn't mind other colors but I'm too proud to go ask my Ate for advice.

*envious*
although i've been told that buying the right shade of foundation and concealer is one of the most difficult things a chick can do, especially over where you guys are at.
i'm too light-skinned/yellow-toned to wear most of the foundations out there so if i'm having a bad skin day, i just stick a hat on and hope for the best.

I hardly ever wear makeup.
I have oily skin so the thought of leaving foundation/powder on my face for more than an hour is kind of gross. I've heard having oily skin is great when you get older because your face doesn't wrinkle so much (it's why my mom looks 20 years younger than she is) but it's also a huge pain. I use anti-acne facial wash products religiously, extra-light tea tree moisturizer in higher humidity and the non-oily SPF 15 Oil of Olay when the weather is dry.
On the very rare occasions I go to a non-family social event, I'll put on a little bit of black eyeliner and some plum- or brick-colored Mac lipstick.
I had a weird job a long time ago as an assistant makeup artist for a home shopping network. It required much more stamina than skill, especially when I renewed the makeup for the guys demonstrating the exercise equipment. During the breaks I'd run out onto the floor, sponge off the sweat and re-swab them with powder.

I have oily skin too and bare escentuals works really well. It doesn't feel like you are wearing anything. Regular foundation is the pits :(

Wow, I thought I was the only one with lips two different colors. Actually, it was one of the first things my hubby noticed about me and he thought it was the coolest thing.
My makeup free days are numbered. I'll make a makeup countergirl's day with all the concealer and foundation I'll have to buy with my ginormous pores and that annoying vein that shows up under one eye. Gah!

Keh! No! The top of my eye has a decent amount of lashes that outline the top, but apparently I don't have enough on the bottom since in far away shots it looks like I have no lashes on the bottom at all and thus making me look all weird'n shit.
Upclose you can see the bottom lashes and it doesn't look so bad.

I wanna try those cheek-stain things where its like a huge tube of lipstick that you put on your cheeks. But I dunno how it'd look. I know its supposed to color your cheeks, but in some photos I see it also makes your cheeks look a teeny bit shiny, issat normal or what?
Dirac
Apr 12th, 2007, 05:43 AM
I think that's normal but I guess you could put a bit of powder over the top if you don't like the effect. Try the Origins blush though, that's really good.

i think anything lipstick like will show up shiny, like those eyeshadow sticks. I really like sephora brand blush compact, if you get the right color it looks pretty natural. I think the lipstick like one will have a hard time looking natural, unless you spend a lot of time blending it in.

Some problems have been developing from Thermage, several prominent plastic surgeons have dropped it from their offering in the LA area. The main issue has to do with facial fat atrophy over time, some very uneven. I personally wouldn't go for Thermage. If you do, choose very carefully and choose an experienced practitioner. In the US, I would only go with a Board certified plastic surgeon (remember that anyone doc can technically give plastic surgery- I've seen dentists give skin peels *shudder*).
Personally, I'm a fan of chemical peels. I think for the cost (50-250, depending on the area), they can offer a lot with pretty low risk if you go with a qualified practitioner (dermatologist or plastic surgeon) and practice preventative care (taking Valtrex before TCA / Jessner peels to minimize cold sore outbreak which can lead to scarring, for example).
