I rcmd'd this in another post and feel like I'm advertising for this guy but he deserves it. Manila always seems to get a bad rap on the travel scene as a dangerous/seedy city, which it can be if you take it at face value. Carlos, tour guide, gives tours throughout all of Manila and even to the island of corrigdor which are a large part educationally enlightening and total entertainment. He is a complete character that makes sense out of all the madness of Manila and at the end of the day a whole new appreciation for the city. So if you are thinking of coming to the PI and were just planning on jumping right to the beach I would plan one extra day and plan on booking a tour with him. Or if you can't make it check out his blog, interesting read. http://www.celdrantours.blogspot.com/

cool, I just got back from manila. I totally love that city. I didn't really feel it was dangerous and seedy, although I do tend to keep my activities family safe(well except for the bar hopping thing). I agree that you do need some sort of guide, navigation there can be quite hectic, I had the aid of my cousins and family driver. I'll definitely try to hook up with Carlos next time I'm there.
