Who's seeing this tonight? I'm a bit miffed that I'll be missing it. I really want to see Couture kick the shit out of Sylvia. Plus Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes -- terrific fight card!

my money is on sylvia to put on another incredibly boring show. couture is moving up a weight class AND coming off of a pretty long retirement hiatus, and sylvia's game plan has always been developed around guys like couture who are almost exclusively based around takedowns.

anyone see the sylvia-monson fight from the nov 06 UFC? i predict that, only possibly more boring.

wow, looks like the fight is going completely opposite my expectations.

Randy "The Natural" Couture

Don't bet against him. Always a class act, whether he wins or loses.

And 43 years old!!

Thanks for the links!

Fantastic fight. Go Randy! With humility all the way.

Being closer in age to Couture than to Silvia, I like watching the old boy beat down the young punk. No dog bites like an old dog bites.

I used to flip past UFC fights on cable and always thought they were extremely boring. Then I saw a series of classic Royce Gracie fights and it totally blew my mind. Are there UFC fights in that style anymore?

if you mean 'fights where no one knows what the hell brazilian jiu jitsu is', no, not really, there aren't a whole lot of those these days. if you're looking for exciting bjj fighters, genki sudo and bj penn have had a pretty rich fight history so far, and shinya aoki is a rising Pride star. nick diaz has some pretty neat fights under his belt, too.

also, check out this documentary called Choke:

to see some earlier Vale Tudo fights.

(fun fact: i trained at the same gym as shinya aoki/yuki nakai for a semester or so while i was abroad in Japan.)

That's a terrific documentary.

I love Rickson Gracie! That man is a true warrior, in every sense of the word. I have huge admiration and respect for that man.

Yuki Nakai is friggin' commendable, man. the total underdog comes out and makes it all the way to face Gracie. I actually stood up and applauded at my computer screen when he beat the Savate guy. What a fighter, with a true martial spirit. PtG, it must have been a great experience training at his dojo!
