Fighting44s is a nexus for the development and exploration of North American Asian identity. All over the world, Western-influenced Asians are coming to us to talk about their lives and experiences and beliefs.
Development and exploration, however, go beyond just dreamy introspection or academic musing. Real development, authentic expression, cannot occur without freedom. Freedom requires equality and mutual respect.
This is where "Fighting" comes in.
What are we fighting? We are not fighting a people, a race, or even a corrupt system. We are fighting attitudes, we are fighting closed-minded worldviews. We are also fighting to better ourselves and acknowledging that this struggle to develop body, mind, and soul never ends.
We recognize difference. We differentiate between "race" and culture and gender and attitude, and at the same time, we integrate by attempting to transcend those differences into more inclusive, more compassionate stances. We are here to listen, we are here to help, and if you need it, we are here to give you a hard kick in the ass.
We are not politically correct, nor are we racist or exclusionary. We are neither "conservative" nor "liberal" in any definable strict definable sense, something which we can prove because we have been accused of being both. While we will always be focused on North American Asian identity and expression, everyone is welcome, as long as he or she brings intelligence, insight, and wit.
We take as high and wide a view of the world as we possibly can. We want to be able to include all opinions and forms of knowledge, and also be able to critically scrutinize any of them. We want to be able to recognize partial truths, limited beliefs, and weave them into greater and more encompassing tapestries of knowledge. We want you to look at the world from a room with a view.
There will be subject matter which will anger you on this site. There will be things that make you mad, make you sad, make you seethe in deepest rage. There will also be opinions with which you whole-heartedly agree, events which will inspire and gratify you. There will be glimpses of hope and joy and deep beauty.
We're smart, we're strong, we know what we're doing, and we're here to stay.
