Plot from imdb: Thousands of years ago in ancient China, a love struck sword hero fights against his destiny. He wants another chance to be reunited with his loved one and he gets that chance, in a far away place and a far away time, in the cold north, in modern Finland. Jade Warrior is set in ancient China early iron age and present day Finland. The past is feeding the story in present day, slowly revealing our warrior his real origin, his superior skills and his destiny. Jade Warrior - the first Finnish Kung Fu film - combines Finnish and Chinese mythologies into one film. Jade Warrior is an homage to Kung Fu genre strongly spiced with a truly original approach to Finnish national epic Kalevala. Like Kalevala Jade Warrior is a pure melodrama. A story of Kalevala¥s greatest hero.

It stars one of the girls from Tsui Hark's Seven Swords as the female lead. I'm still sceptical about this film...

Hahahaha, the trailer had me rollin'.

The production crew must've went the Red Doors route and casted the person that "fit the role best" for the protagonist, because OF COURSE he's a white guy in semi-yellow face. GOD FORBID that a Chinese guy, you know, actually lives in ancient China and hooks up with a Chinese girl.

The message is clear, time travel techniques must be employed to pair up WM's and AF's.

That actress is Zhang Jing Chu, a new face in China, but as soon as she opened her mouth, I knew she had a pretty bad case of white worship/foreign envy. There is speculation in China that she is trying to copy the "success" of Zhang Ziyi, and break into Hollywood.

It is pity that this movie has a lot of snow fights though, IMO, snow fights are some of the best scenes ever in Martial Arts movies. I await the day that a movie does justice to Louis Cha's "The Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain".

The trailer feels like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon meets Hero minus the all-Asian cast. I too am rather skeptical about this film.

I think he was suppose to be Chinese when it is happening in ancient China. So apparently yea, an asian character can get the girl, so long he's played by a white dude.

It's supposed to be some Finnish guy somehow going back in time to some fantasy ancient china of all places...would've been better if they just stuck with the finnish folklore bit.

Wasn't this done once before with John Wayne?
