sorry if this has already been discussed, im a bit slow when it comes to TV programs. there is this sitcom made in Britain 1998-2000 called Goodness Gracious Me with an all-Asian cast (South Asians, mostly Indian i think) and some of their skits were pretty damn funny. i only recently saw them on youtube. they dont seem afraid to get political and their humor isnt just making fun of their own people, they mostly seem to mock racist British attitudes and anti-Indian stereotypes:

most importantly i think they made this comedy with the Asian audience in mind, so the jokes are meant to appeal to that group

I love that show! Yep, the cast are all British Indian - they also do another show called 'The Kumars at No. 42', which is a take-off of chat shows (the celebrities are all real though). Meera Syal is also an author (some people are too talented.) My favourite scene was where a group of Indian people go to an English restaurant and dare each other to order "the blandest thing on the menu" :D

i also like how they confront the assimilation issue with that skit about the grown up parents, two couples socializing who want to pretend they're not Indian or like they want nothing to do with Inda or Indian people. the mockery is ruthless.

That show alone is worth the price of my satellite dish.

There was a great skit where they had Indian students travelling around England and dissecting the culture - "It's so sad that people are bound by all these traditions" etc. Hilarious!

That show is up there with Seinfeld, The Office, Andy Griffith, and Arrested Development among my favorites. I love the short skits with the "player" who keeps finding new ways to ruin his dates. "Check Please!"

Another great British sitcom was "Chef" - about a talented, but pompous and conceited black chef.

The episode where he competes in a culinary contest in France - where he insists on using all English staples - including wine and cheese is a total hoot.
