Hello all!
This is my first post on the forums so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a 31 year old half chinese, half japanese male living in Vancouver, BC. I was born and raised in Ottawa, Ont and move to the west coast 2 years ago. I speak very broken cantonese and even worst japanese. I'm the oldest of a family with 4 boys. Growing up in a city with very few asians, didn't let me learn much about the culture or the language. It wasn't until I was 24 that I started taking cantonese classes. I'm what the asian community refers to as a "bannana". When I was in my first year of university, I started to become aware of asian issues and I've been trying to "reawaken" since then.
I work as a social worker in the city, helping the city's homeless population. This will be my 9th year in the field.
Two of my passions are weightlifting and iaido (japanese swordsmanship). This May I will be testing for my shodan (1st dan black belt).
I'm opening to discussing anything that you may have to talk about. Althought I have no patience at all for prejudice and racism of any knid. Those who know me from the modelminority.com forums will attest to that.
Nice to meet you all! :P

Hi Impact-Blue, welcome to the 44's!
I want to publicly thank you for supporting me on the modelminority.com forums when I criticized Fatfish's statement that "all AF in Hollywood are whores". You were one of the few people there who spoke out against such a flagrant insult directed at all Asian women who chose to work in Hollywood.
The fact that so few people on that forum supported my attempt at pointing out the offensive nature of Fatfishe's original statement, and subsequent statements that seemed to imply I shouldnít have been offended, speaks volumes about what the MM forums have become: a forum of hate.
Thanks again for your support.

Thumbs up to you for that!!! I got mad respect for anyone involved in that field. I've thought about working or volunteering at a homeless shelter, though at this point I don't have much time. Anyway, welcome to the 44s! Let us know how you like this site compared to MM. I used to browse MM, but got tired of it.

Quite a few places, actually. I spent time in Nepean, the Glebe, and Hunt Club, though I mostly went to school downtown.

I live in Vancouver, and I noticed there are ALOT of homeless people here in Vancouver, probably attracted by the mild weather. Hastings and Main is absolutely the worst-looking area I've ever seen in either Vancouver or Toronto. Lots of people just sitting around, and everytime I drive by, at least one person is crossing the road with a shopping cart, stopping traffic. (I'm not exaggerating here).
How do you find Vancouver?
I love it here! It's a beautiful city! The opportunities far out weight anything I had in Ottawa. I knew of the homeless problem before I came out here, since it was in my field or work. I knew landing a job would be easy. Where do you live in Vancouver? I'm on Broadway near Fraser.
