Hi everyone,
This semester Iím taking a class in online communities. The major project of this class is a study of an online community. I would like to study the Fighting 44s community. I am not conducting research on behalf the operators of the site or to advance general knowledge. The paper will not be published. I am just investigating to aid my learning about how online communities work and how they are designed. My term paper will describe The Fighting 44ís purpose, the technologies used, roles, identifiers and identities, intergroup relations, norms of behavior, and governance mechanisms. For more information about the course, see http://icd.si.umich.edu/684.
Iím going to be posting notes about what I observe during my study in the Wetwork section. I welcome any feedback that you may have. I will be posting surveys from time to time and private messaging some of you. I will be asking questions about your motivation in coming to The Fighting 44s and participating in the forum. Just remember that your participation is completely voluntary and I will make sure to protect your privacy at all times.
If you have any concerns about what I am doing, you may contact me by email at choidh@umich.edu or you can contact Professor Resnick at presnick@umich.edu.
