Damn, why do people diss on mayo so much? I seem to be the only one who loves mayo. I have mayo with my fries instead of ketchup.

Apollyon,

I love mayo, too. Dammit- if you put mayo on your fries, you're eating Frites, not fries! It's a Belgian thing to do- with a sprinkling of sea salt and ground pepper. One of my prof is Belgian, and we alsways used to make fun of him for eating fries with mayo.

Ohhh that sounds yummy, I'll have to try it. But whats the difference between sea salt and regular salt?

Regular salt is mined, sea salt is salt evaporated from ocean water. Sea salt has different mineral compositions in comparison to regular NaCl. Get your paws on some different sea salts, they all have different tastes and complement food better than regular mined salt.

Thanks!! That sounds really good. I love cooking with salt. I'm pretty bad I admit, because I put salt on everything. Now I'm going to try sea salt on various dishes and in various soups and see how they turn out :D

I love mixing some chopped garlic (which turns it into an aioli) and even chives to the mayo and dip my fries in that, with sea salt and fresh ground peppers.

I like Maldon and Fleur de sel sea salts. Maldon is British, Fleur is French.
I also like the Celtin Grey sea salt as well as the Hawaiian Reds. They do have different flavors!

I prefer Japanese Mayo to the U.S. kind.

No - it's Dutch. As in Holland. The Belgians probably do it because at one point they were one with the Netherlands, and they are culturally similar. Well - maybe the Flemish, but I'm not so sure about the French-speaking Walloons.

Well, the only people I saw eating fries with mayo are Belgians. It could be Dutch. Who knows? It soulds like the right, vile combination when the munchies hit, though.

VINCENT: I dunno, I didn't go into a Burger King. But you know what they put on french fries in Holland instead of ketchup?

JULES: What?

VINCENT: Mayonnaise.

JULES: Goddamn!

VINCENT: I seen 'em do it. And I don't mean a little bit on the side of the plate, they fuckin' drown 'em in it.

Fries and malt vinegar aren't half bad.

Mayo is not my favorite condiment but I will readily admit that there is a time and a place for mayo. Anybody watch the last episode of the 5th season of Curb your Enthusiasm? Right before he died, Larry made Jeff promise not to add extra mayo to his tuna fish sandwiches.

yeah, i've had instances where the mayo somehow got on my french fries after falling out of my sandwhich at McD's and it was great. After that, i tried french fries exclusively with mayo every now and then and it was cool. Greasy, but cool.

I don't eat fast food as much anymore but, no, you're not weird. Just different.
