Am I the only one obsessed with this game? My bf and my family have been playing this game for a while and I've only recently discovered it myself.

For those of you who don't know the game, basically you're the prince of the cosmos and you have to replace all the stars in the sky with stuff from earth that you roll into giant balls. So you roll pretty much anything that is in your path, from thumb tacks to dinosaurs. First you start rolling up little items and as your ball gets bigger you roll up the bigger things.

Apparently there's a sequel out now called Everybody loves Katamari Damacy. If I ever finish the first one I'll probably go out and buy the sequel.

This game rocks.

It's actually kinda short, but most of the replay value comes from seeing how much larger one can make the katamari after successive plays. Some of the percentages are crazy. You can roll what you think is a huge katamari and still only have picked X% of the objects.

A friend already bought, played and beat We heart Katamari. The first was a surprise hit, so the sequal is pretty much "fan service". It's very self-referential.

I need to try playing this game under the influence. Not that I do that sort of thing.

When are they gonna port Katamari to PSP???

Come to think of it, when are they gonna just start bustin out with the titles for it? Its weird being here in Japan and seing just how up-the-azz Bill gates and his xbox are taking it here. They have video game stores like our EB, or GameStops... but think BIGGER (lots bigger). IN anycase... its a trip walking up and down the aisles of these monsters, and seeing like 75%-80% of the floor space dedicated to sony product (largely PS2/PSX).

They ARE starting to get used titles in truly "used" price range though... I just picked up "Namco Museum" for about $14 U.S.D. Now those are prices I can get behind!

I'd just like to see MORE titles. (used and new)

I dumped my GBA because the only titles they had that I wanted (even used) STILL cost about 4000 Yen (~$40) which is on par with the new PSP titles... so why was I limiting my game hardware if Im still gonna eat it on game prices?

So I got the PSP which has that great Lumines (a tasty 1st game responsible for loss of MUCH sleep my first week of ownership...) but whats my followup?

Tiger Woods '06? (a "methodone" to my golf "heroin" addiction)
Minna no Golf? (a cartoony version of same)

Anybody try that "mercury" game? (its supposed to be like marble madness from back inna day...)

What? You have to ask? GTA Liberty City Stories. That's gonna be my next perfect drug. And then there's LotR tactics.

There IS a port of Katamari coming out for PSP, but I dunno how those controls are gonna work out.

Yea, Katamari ROCKS.

Fan

GTA might sound like a nice and easy choice... but my Japanese is just not that tight. Text heavy games will slow me to a crawl. (envision playing a PSP with a dictionary in one hand and you get the idea)

I could always have someone stateside buy it and ship it to me here in Miyazaki... but there goes any chance of picking it up on sale or with a nice discount. And I HATE paying full price for video games or DVDs.

ahhh, I hear ya. Man, tough situation there. Burnout Legends is the next game I would recommend then. No text reading necessary. It's been out for a while now so it's due for the discount bin. If you're into fighting games and anime, there are also Bleach and Bleach 2.

I hear ya on the Bleach thing. Ive been eyeballing it as late as yesterday. I havent seen the anime though. Im a HUGE fan of anime (yeah, you needed me to say that right?), but it needs to be something EXTRA to get my love. The last thing I really loved was Sentou Yousei Yukikaze. The story has yet to get me, but the animation is absolutley incredible. Of course its not hurt by the fact that Ive been into military planes since I was a kid. Before that was Cowboy Bebop. I know theres been a lot of "great" stuff released between then and after then, but like I said, I only like what I like, and it pisses me off to invest hope into yet another anime show that will disappoint.

But Ive been looking at the game anyway. Theyve got a train sim for PSP... (I figure that doubles down as edutainment for me) But they dont have a Kyushu line, only Honshu for PSP. Since I dont live on that island... dont make a grip o' sense to learn the train lines.

Ive also been thinking Metal Gear Ac!d... but I still have my Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2) that I have YET to invest an hour of playtime into.

Im the meantime I sit jonesing for a connectable keyboard so I can tap into wifi at whim and stay connected. games or no THAT right there will validate the purchase for me. Theres some company that released a photo of a (prototype?) but theres no solid info available. Also, it looks like it folds up to serve as a screen cover.

IMO a properly done keyboard should lay flat on the table and fold up into a separate unit like the keyboards for palm pilots. Shit PSP HAS a USB port!! How hard to make is this thing??

You've seen Samurai Champloo right?

Kuroyama
Oct 27th, 2005, 02:16 AM
Yeah, Ive seen SOME Champloo... but I got this thing about chambara where I only dig more realistic stuff. So what does that say about me since Im the first person to go see wuxia, even though I study traditional Chinese MA and dont care for wushu. Oh, yeah, I also dont study Japanese MA (even though I live in Japan and speak Japanese...)

But if you were to play my life back youd come across more than a couple of logic faults. Hey, Ive got issues.

Getting back to Champloo though. Without subtitles Im reduced to about 60% of understanding. And though some of the style was cool, its not really my cup of tea. (I prefer imagery like Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, or stuff by Kastuhiro Otomo, or Hayao Miyazaki) Since the wife didnt dig it at all, its hard to dump the "family video" budget on a series that Im only halfway understanding (no subtitles when you rent in Japan) and that the wife doesnt dig at all. Id chalk it up to edutainment... but peeps in my age bracket dont speak with quite that much slang anymore.

Im stil waiting for that PSP keyboard...

Infected (the game) looks good though...

Use Bit Torrent sucka! Get some fan subs... the series is by the people who did Cowboy Bebop. That and the music is awesome, also just like Bebop.

Picked this up two days ago! I struggled with the Japanese until (HELLO) I read the INSTRUCTIONS with contain furigana (a hiragan crutch to those who cant read all the kanji).

Last night at the family bonnenkai I showed it to the wifes cousin who is a MAD gamer... she lost her mind!

the controls (arrow keys on the left, circle-square-triangle-X on the right) work like tank controls. (up arrow + triangle = go forward, up arrow + x = turn in place to the right...) very simple and easy to get!

love the music! love the graphics! Ill be playing this one a WHILE. I dont think its out in America yet, but grab it when it does!
