Hey maogirl, those riceballs look yummy; are they more on the sweet side than savory? Please forgive me but as you know, food trends in Asia show up on the East and West Coast 2-3 years later and another 5-8 years in the midwest. There's finally a handful of restaurants that offer bubble tea to give you some idea of the food wilderness I'm living in. Horrors!

Yum. Really want to try the rice balls. Dragon's breath I haven't had in the longest time.

yikes!

want me to mail stuff to you? non-perishables, i mean?

the riceballs are mostly savoury, but there are some sweet choices in the fillings, like sugared taro, mango, etc.

you could go totally crazy and make some fucked up riceball will dried fish and preserved plums or something.

i'm going to have some today, i'll put up a report.

sorry for the laziness, but i wrote up my rice ball experience on my blog, and i'm just pasting it on this post.

I finally got to try those rice balls today at IFC.

They were kind of a disappointment. Kev said that he saw on television that they were really popular, but there were hardly any people there today (yes, I know, I do a lot of things with Kev, none of my girl friends eat, which is probably why they're so fucking thin). Maybe because it's a holiday? Who knows.

We decided to get a jumbo-sized brown rice ball for HKD15. You can choose six fillings to put in it.

Well...it's basically a zhong zi but with some funky fillings. We got pork and seaweed fluff, spicy pork, some chicken, some sweet pork, something else, and HOT DOG SAUSAGE!

That's how big a jumbo rice ball is. Okay, if anyone photoshops a penis over the rice ball, I will be very pissed off.

I'd say the idea is fantastic, but the actual food is meh. 7/10

evil_fux, supposedly this place is packed during the weekdays with people buying rice balls to take to work for lunch/breakfast. i can see how it can be really nutritious (they have some riceballs like the "diet ones" where the ingredients have been pre-chosen, you just ask for one). i didn't exactly choose the best ingredients, though.

it could've been better had the ingredients been fresher and not so dry. the rice was pretty tasty, i have to admit.

I was deprived as a child, can anyone describe dragon's breath to me?

ooh, inside is like crushed, sugared peanuts with some kind of nougat-ish stuff (kind of like a peanut mochi), and the "breath" is made of sugar fluff...it's almost like cotton candy, but more "tangible" and it sticks together almost like toffee when you eat it.

the more i think about the rice ball, the more i realize that i fucked up with the ingredients. i just randomly chose ones that i like without any thought to whether or not they went well together.

i'm going to have to try it again soon.

that is so hot.

If I had to choose between sex and good food... I would be a fat man...

Fortunately, we don't. You could even combine the two; load up on calories and then burn 'em right off. Match made in heaven.

this made me think of eggplants and cucumbers for some reason.

Would you still eat them afterwards?
