SAY NO TO TSUNAMI SONG DJ
Let 94.9 WILD and Clear Channel Know that
Racism and Sexism on the Radio is NOT OK!!
Plse Fwd Link Widely: http://actionstudio.org/?go=1683
Local radio station 94.9 Wild has hired Rick Delgado, formerly of Hot 97 in NYC. Delgado was fired from the morning show of HOT 97 after writing and producing the ìTsunami Song,î a parody that mocked the victims of a natural disaster with racist epithets such as ìchink.î He is quoted in a San Jose Mercury News article as saying, ìIt was a matter of bad taste, like a blond (sic) joke.î But the use of the word ìchinkî cannot be excused as mere ìbad taste.î It is a racist term, the use of which condones racist views and fosters a climate of disrespect and hatred towards Asians. Beyond the racism the Tsunami Song evinces, it is an unacceptable mockery of a human tragedy that claimed the lives of 200,000 people.
The hiring of Mr. Delgado comes after KYLD-FM/WILD 94.9 terminated members of its ìMorning Doghouse Showî for making sexist comments on and off the air. LET 94.9 Wild and Clear Channel Know that hiring a racist producer to replace sexist ones is a mockery of Clear Channelís own zero-tolerance diversity policy that ìprohibits discriminationî!!!!!
