View Full Version : Sensitive Assholes

This is something that's been on my mind for a while (I spoke to Lopan, Tojo, and Sheki about this at length a month or so ago), so I want to repost some of my thoughts from a thread in the Palchisan Realm here.

This concerns the tendencies of a few of the women and more "sensitive" men here to rain all over the parades of others here in "sensitive," sometimes conscious, sometimes unconscious ways.

First post:

What annoys kwak and sb1 (and me) is the tendency of folks with a certain type of worldcentric stance (like Catty, Xian, Catatonic, ZBJ, the banned Xenzu, and others) to try to bring the discussion away from the relevance of race and toward other issues, be they classism, feminism, humanism, etc. at the most inappropriate moments.

When someone tries to call you on it, you usually mention something along the lines of promoting free discussion, exploring all possibilities, offering counterpoints, etc. without realizing that there are better, more compassionate, more intelligent, and more skillful ways of doing it.

What you are doing is JUST AS BAD as what you accuse Kwak of doing. It demonstrates a similar lack of skillful means and a similar sort of (anti-)fixation.

Second post:

(After I'm told that there are often many factors at play beyond race in certain cases, something that I have been saying from the beginning, particularly in my advoacy of the Integral AQAL model.)

Ha ha, y'see, this is pretty much the exact response I thought I would get. I'm not talking about not bringing up salient non-race issues (nor did I make any sort of statement on this prostitution issue). Of COURSE you should bring up feminism and humanism and socialism and whatever else is relevant to a situation.

I'm talking about tendencies to constantly de-emphasize relevant racial or sexual-racial issues in inappropriate ways (this is particularly aimed at Catty and Xian); I'm talking about tendencies to deconstruct certain threads in obnoxious irrelevant ways. Just as Kwak is fixated on race and CCBism, some of these people are fixated on constantly undermining the relevance of race and CCBism and particularly male sexuality.

Examples:

1)
"Blue balls suck!"
"Yeah, blue balls suck!"
"Childbirth is worse."

Yeah, thanks. So is ovarian cancer and being whipped while wearing a slave collar. Not the fucking point.

2)
"Advertising for White men on a billboard sucks!"
"Yeah, White men-only billboards suck!"
"Well, she could love Asian men and only be going for White men on the billboard 'cause she has trouble meeting them in real life."

Yeah, thanks. Hey, it could also be a case of she can't read English and her translator was pulling a fast one on her! Not the damn point.

3)
"That image with the karate dude coming home to see his wife in bed with a White man with a wall of weapons next to him is funny!"
"Yeah, it's a funny situation, and I like what's coming!"
"Well, we don't know that the two Asians are married, or that it's even their house, and the chick could be setting the White man up for a fall."

Yeah, thanks. Hey, the White man could be a dying castrated amputee that the couple are letting stay at their place and want to give him one last fine day on Earth. Not the fucking point.

4)
"Sometimes I just get mad. I get mad at injustice and mad at people and mad at myself."
"Yeah, I get mad too! It sucks!"
"I am a sexy awesome dancing machine who is in love with life and living and breathing social justice."

*sigh*

5)
"I saw a CCB last night. They suck and it made me sad."
"Yeah, they suck and make me mad (and sad)!"
"You don't know she was a CCB. Women have problems too. She may have just been friends. You don't know her history. You don't know what women go through. Choosing a mate has more to do with personality and class and economic status anyway. Stop being so judgmental."

Yeah, thanks.

These are just straight off the top of my head. I could go on and on and on.

If ANYONE wants to pull deconstructive bullshit like this, feel free, but START YOUR OWN THREAD and start it the Under a Yellow Sun forum. DON'T contaminate other threads with this rhetorical garbage, particular in the Palchisan Realm.

Third post:

And incidentally, the reason I'm coming down somewhat harshly, the reason why I'm being so polemic, is to level the playing field.

Whenever anyone tries to criticize the deconstructive, irrelevant tendencies of some posters, they're attacked for not supporting free, open, and thorough discussion and discourse (which usually goes on for page after painful page).

THIS VERY MODE of discourse, this platform of interaction IN ITSELF is BIASED TOWARD this worldcentric postmodern deconstructionism.

(and I realize by even bothering to EXPLAIN this I'm playing into their hands, but alas ....)

My point? There are times to shut up and times to discuss things at length. Many people here, men AND women, worldcentrics AND ethnocentrics, would do well to learn when to talk and when to keep quiet.

You could create a "Deconstructive, Irrelevant Tendencies" room, and then designate some moderators apt at spotting such things to split these posts away from threads into this room. That would probably get things back on track quickly, I'll warrant.

I'm getting to be a particularly sensitive asshole when sensitive assholes seem to think being sensitive equates to bashing white folks and equating all evil in the world to white folks constantly.

We agree with this. We also think that the forum doesn't have that much of it. It's limited to a couple forums on the site, which are designed to contain it.

thank you. I believe "White-bashing" is only a reaction to White PRIVILEGE.

White-bashing doesn't occur all that much here and when it does happen, I find it more hilarious and amusing than vicious.

Anyone can "bash" and make fun of any race here if it's funny and good-natured (i.e. you're open to getting your own race bashed too). If you're a serious bigot, we ban you immediately.
