Man, that is fucked up. That guy was a pretty quick on the draw and was it really necessary to taser her again so soon? Fucking cop.

It wouldn't have happened to a white woman driving a BMW that clearly lives in Rancho Santa Fe (one of the nicest neighborhoods in San Diego- the Governator used to have a house there before he went to Suck-a-mento). A white tweaker-looking, trailer-trash livin' woman driving a beater? Very possible, esp if you've been convicted of meth offenses. San Diego has a serious meth issues and cops WILL use force you if they think you're tweaking and you refuse to cooperate.

That seriously sucks if you're just a sober person driving a beater that had a wee bit more coffee than needed, or forgot their paxil/lithium. My ex co-worker used to get harrassed by cops because so many cops thought she was a tweaker- but she was just a struggling student working 2 jobs, going to school, and living off of way too much fucking coffee. Every time she got stopped, they would demand that she get out of the car, and they would give her hell.

Like I said, same situation , no way a white chick would have gotten tased, certainly not as fast as that jack-booted thug tased the black woman.

BTW, the forum response to the tasering is incredible...a whole bunch of people gleefully cheering the tasering.

They couldn't understand why she would want to tell someone where she was when she was pulled over.

I'm sorry, too many colored folks have been killed for speeding or DWB, the idea that they would be tasered for wanting another witness to be there is ridiculous.

I think the real agenda is that a lot of white folks like the idea of a 22 year-old black woman being shot TWICE with ridiculous amounts of electricity. I think they LIKE hearing her scream. I mean, how in God's name is she supposed to comply after being shot?

Catty,

Come on now... I know that you want to bring in a "larger perspective," but you are just being downright dismissive. Yes, White people do face hardships. Yes, White people do have class struggles.

However, bringing these issues up after a blatant display of racial violence doesn't make you look open-minded -it makes you look grossly insensitive. It seems like you are trying to trivialize the obvious issues of race which motivated this brutal attack on an unarmed Black woman.

Wow that is terrible. You're damn right that wouldn't have happened to a white woman in the same situation.

I feel also feel that, as a Black woman, she should have known better than to antagonize the cop, given their track record with Black people & other minorities. I'm not saying the cop's actions were OK, but I know, for myself at least, that I wouldn't be giving him him any excuse to rough me up.

I understand what y'all are saying. Sorry for coming across as insensitive.
That's totally my bad. I agree that a white woman driving the same vehicle won't be tazered like that. I also don't mean to trivilalize the extreme use of force, esp since the woman was being belligerant, but definitely not a physical threat. It's also not a BAD idea to call people when you get stopped by the cops. In San Diego, a highway patrol officer was stopping women, raping and killing them. The officer had no need to use the tazer unless she was threatning him with a weapon.

They tase prisoners for all kinds of unimportant reasons. I've been told that tazing causes incredible pain and can cause you to lose control of bowel and bladder. So it is very possible that after being tased you cannot comply with the command, and are then given another shot.

One of my life's most frightening moments, was driving through Long Island one night with Evergreen. We'd just left the parking lot of a supermarket and as soon as we got on the road a police car followed us for several blocks. We made a turn onto a highway back towards the city, and the police car made the turn and followed us. After a few minutes, they put on the siren and told us to pull over.

This was one of those dark highways where the only light is from the headlights of cars. There was blackness all around except when I looked back and saw the super high beams from the police car blinding me.

A big beefy cracker walks over and both demands Evergreens liscense and at the same time tells him not to move. (How do you comply). So he didnt move. So the cracker says, "I asked you to see your fucking liscence!)

Evergreen says, "I am slowly going for my liscense. My registration is in the glove compartment."

My heart was beating so fast if I'd had the slightest heart trouble I'd be dead of a heart attack. Oh, did I mention the pig had his gun out?

After checking everything and finding that the car was not stolen, that Evergreen was not an illegal alien, that we had groceries and not bombs in the back seat, he snarls and tells us to get the right signal light fixed.

As for "if it was a poor White woman it could have happened", I dont believe it. In NYC, there are hundreds of stories of unarmed Black, Latino, and Asians who were murdered by NYPD; and thousands more cases of being beaten by them. And you just don't see the cases about White women.

The only unarmed White man in NYC that I heard of who was killed by NYPD was a naked Hassidic young man who was supposedly mentally ill and supposedly menaced them with a hammer. (Come on, I could probably disarm a naked man with a hammer, expecially if I'm there with backup, batons, mace, etc.) I later found there was more to that story, I think he took his clothes off to prove he had no weapon, not that he was crazy.

As for people justifying it, well the relationship between White people and the police is much different than it is for people of color. So from their point of view, its crazy to warn someone that you are being stopped and pulled over, those folks will never having the fear of ending up dead for a traffic problem.

This is complete bullshit. Their reason for tasing her was that she tried to strike the other officer when he tried to take the phone from her. He shouldn't have tried to use force to take her phone.
Note how he says he already knew it was gonna go down like that on the radio. Was it cause she was black in a beat up SUV?
The reason I feel this is so unjustified is because her reaction was very natural for a black woman. My mother was brutalized by cops, then they put her in the backseat of their car with all the windows rolled up and the engine running for around 2 hours with noxious exhaust fumes leaking into the car while she was handcuffed. The only reason she survived was from sucking air from a small crack in the window. She kept the dress they beat her in for years. Image 13 large male boot prints on the back of a size 4 dress.

I've been on the recieving end of a phone call from a friend when they were being pulled over because black people don't trust police officers and need to let someone else know what's going on, where, and when.

The truth is, tasing is not always safe and can cause serious health problems with some people. I think there were at least 2 people in the Bay Area to die after being tased. How can electricuting a human person be a human way of detaining them? Firing a weapon which sticks into a persons body, then shoves 50k volts into human flesh be considered humane?

She didn't handle being pulled over well, and the officers didn't handle pulling her over well. Basically, the way I see it, they were both in the wrong. But socially, we are taught to accept aggression in the form of police enforcement, but not from the regular public. Police officers tend to have a very short fuse, especially when dealing with minorities. Anytime I am pulled over I am always careful to be very cordial toward them, pray in my mind that I'll have a nice cop, and that even if he is a racist evil bastard, my niceness will bring out the best in him. But I know how hard it would be for some other women I know, to keep their composure the way I am able to do it.

Anyway, there is no way around it, this officer was being a hothead, and he encountered a hothead. However, the law always has the upper hand, especially when they have guns and tasers.

I suggest that people in law enforcement be forced to undergo yearly psychological exams to be certain that the stress of their job isn't affecting their judgement. Every officer who I mentioned this idea to was adamandtly against it, yet they were the first to admit that suicide was a high risk for people in law enforcement, as well as in home abuse, and difficulty managing stress. I even know a sheriff who failed the psychological exam, but the doctor passed him because he liked him. The doctor told him so.

Also, notice that the narrator of this example is purposely a black looking male? Coincedence? I think not.

The first number in my address book is the 911 non-pullover number. It is your right to call this number if you are being pulled over in either a dark, or otherwise unsafe area, and wait until you get to a safe place like an occupied gas station before pulling over. There is supposed to be a dispatcher on the other end of the non-pullover number, you tell them what road you are on, your license plate number, and why you are not pulling over, and the police are supposed to wait patiently until you pullover. I've never had to test this luckily. But it was put in place because women were being pulled over by sometimes cops, then being raped, and other times being pulled over by cop impersonators and being raped. Either way, a woman who is alone, is not safe if she is being pulled over in an area without witnesses.

Edit: Oh yea This is in Florida by the way. Notorious for being a racist state. Notice how there were racists trolling their forum as well. Anytime a racist is in support of something, that's a warning flag.

This is obviously a case of a cop using unneccessary force and was motivated by race to some extent.... stupid triggerhappy pig. This would never happen with white people. On the other hand, this lady should have not been so stupid. If a cop pulls you over and tells you to get out of the car, you do it... especially if you are a minority. Just STFU and do what he says so he doesn't have an excuse to abuse his powers.

He doesn't need an excuse to abuse his powers. Her crime was calling for help. Many officers see any sort of accountability as a serious threat and will take any means to discourage people of color from trying to establish that accountability.
