Hey everyone, I am new, and I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Timur. I am Mongolian/Tatar, and I live in the norCal, I came over when I was a little kid, but I was born in the former Soviet Union, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
I agree with your guys' forum! I belong to neither back home or here in America! Yet I am both at the same time. True "Asian-American".
Thats me, so greetings everyone!

Yo whassup Saikadelik,
I think you're our first Mongolian member! As you can see, we've tried to incorporate bits from all the various Asian cultures here, and we've dipped into our Mongolian glossaries once or twice.
Also, have you heard of Bazarbek Donbay, the Kazakhstani Judo champion? We look almost exactly alike (when I sent my mom a photo of him, she thought it was me!).
If you get a chance, you can read up on our forum's structure and themes here:

Welcome to the 44s, we're glad you're aboard, and we look forward to more of your posts!

Greetings! Cool ethnicity, btw (gotta dig more diversity).
Do you have any contacts with people/relatives back in Kazakhstan?
As a Mongolian/Tartar - what are the general feelings towards the Russians and the Chinese?

Its funny that you should bring that subject up, most people ask me what I and my people think of Chinese and Russians!
Communist Russia helped Mongolia gain independence from monarchist China..thus we were allied to the Soviet Union.
Modern day Mongolia is not very powerful, but it was part of a powerful alliance that spanned almost all of Asia with red banners, the Communist alliance.
Generally, the feelings towards Russians are positive, whereas feelings to towards the Chinese are negative....but this is due to Inner Mongolia being ruled by China. That issue is central focus when you ask a Mongol his opinion of China. Of course it isn't all love with Soviet Union, it was against nomadic lifestyle, which prior to communism, was the primary style of living in Mongolistan. When communism took power, they forced people into Urban and agricultural formations, often against people's will.
This can be blamed on our northern neighbors....
The flip side...nowadays, Central Asia is relatively powerless, and our economies are slumped, and the -stan countries are ruled by drug dealers....So Communism also did some good...
I like BOTH Russians AND Chinese personally! 8)
Oh, and yeah, I do have contact with my people back home. I have 2 cousins, and an aunt who live in Kazakhstan. I also have some family in Ulan Bataar! I have them fill me in on the situation back there. I'd like to go back there some day, re-visit the land of my ancestors... Maybe when I graduate highschool...

Thanks for your thoughts.
Supposedly, the economy in Mongolia is slowly rebounding.
I saw a travel program on Ulan Bataar - make sure you visit during the the Naadam Festival. (What's the take on Coreans? A common belief is that Coreans were an ancient Mongolian tribe(s) - hence the special affinity for the curved bow).
