View Full Version : RFA or NFA??? I am the former

Greetings. I am a self-described RFA, and we will get to that in a moment. My name notwithstanding, I am a third generation Chinese-American, equally proud of both. However, despite my efforts at integration, I notice obstacles in my case, some of which are insurmountable.

You see, I am what one would call a "round-faced Asian."

I state it in this manner because I notice, anecdotally, that the only men who get chicks (UWBs and CCBs in particular) are Asian men with more defined features, or what I call "narrow faced Asians," or NFAs. You know what I mean - the Rick Yune type.

This phenomena may be the case with most men in general, but seems more pronounced in Asians. Am I the only one who notices this?

It very frustrating for me too, as RFA.

Well

I have a narrow face so I can't say much. I do notice more asians with this feature than any other race.

Also if you have a large bank roll, the shape of your face doesn't matter

I was rfa way back in the day (chubbiest baby in the hospital, and then round for years), but I took after my mom and eventually got the sharp, defined features late in my teenage years.

Ric is right: make money and get to be well-spoken, and you'll be fine.

Well I say this.... I defintely can get the FOB asian girls! Matter of fact my gf is an chinese FOB so thats pretty much says it all right there  The AA ones( more than 50 %), eh.

:?

To me the only ones who have so called round face feature are those of SE asians and those who are a little on heavy side for their height.

I would say not majority of asians have this feature but % wise it is more prevalent in our race than in others

Oh and welcome, rfa and Rex4u, to the Fighting 44s! I'd give you more of the official intro and guide to this forum's structures and themes, but we're presently making a few changes, so I'll hold of on that until things settle. Glad you're aboard.

I have tried a lot of diets. I did Atkins where I literally ate nothing but steak for weeks at a time. I have emaciated myself to no end but to no avail. I mean, seriously, Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa have rounder heads than I do, and they do STEROIDS!!!

The comments that "I am fat" are not productive. Rather, I am looking for validation or negation of my general theory.

Well the issue here is this. If round-faced ppl can't get laid (and thus are unable to pass on their genes, then why are there still round-faced Asians?

Besides, most women aren't as shallow as us men  If the only thing they cared about was looks, then most of us wouldn't be getting any action!

Renee Zellweger is allegedly bulimic; if you notice her body, it's much skinnier than it was before, but her face has gotten rounder. When a person is bulimic, his/her face gets swollen due to the stomach acids inflaming the tissues from purging.

I don't judge people based on their face shapes; whether an individual has a round face or a narrow face has absolutely no influence on his/her personality and character, which I deem to be far more important than looks.

Anyway, rfa4life, if you'd like to de-emphasise the roundness of your face, perhaps you could consult a hairstylist who knows what he/she is doing, and see if there's a style that could work for you. You might also want to go through your wardrobe and avoid wearing shirts with round collars, as they bring attention to your face. V-necks or polo shirts may suit you better.

Renee gained weight for her roles in Bridgett Jones (I believe like 20+ lbs). Aside from gaining weight specifically for movies, she has maintained a very thing frame.

Renee's always had plump cheeks and I think it's really charming on her, IMHO. There's no doubt she has more (facial) cheeks than the HW norm- i.e. Teri Hatcher, Calista Flockhart... I think it's great.

RFA,

It really depends on your age, but there is a point where people develop maturity to be able to realize that they (and the rest of the world) don't look like anything out of a magazine or movie screen, and having a chiseled jawline isn't the most important factor is a suitable partner.

The "RF" guys (Asian and non-Asian- because I've heard guys of every race complain about this) can do well with girls. Maintain a sense of humor. I think that goes very far in attracting the right type of people. I mean, guys complain about women that complain about their thighs or whatever- you don't want to be the male vesion of that. Nobody wants to be with someone that focuses on the negative. Work on the things you can work on, rather than letting the things you can't do anything about bring you down.

If you think your social skills need fine-tuning, then do what it takes to make yourself more at ease (join clubs, take classes, etc).

If you're not happy with your appearance, fine-tune it. Go hit the weights. Eat healthy. Change your hairstylist. Get a new wardrobe. If you feel that you want to take drastic measures, there's always plastic surgery, but you gotta be really careful if you take that route.

The key to attracting people is to project confidence and fun. You can try to opposite by projecting brooding anger, but you're only going to attract drama queens that will make your life miserable. We can dwell on the negative or try to play up the positive. You can do the former but that's never going to be attractive to anyone with a sound psychology.

Hey, RF people tend to look younger than their age, so that will come in handy as you get older ;)

Just take care of your skin.

I've also noticed that facial hair can drastically change your look, so you might want to experiment with if you're comfy with the idea.

Well, facial hair doesn't work for everyone. It's common to have patchy/uneven facial hair.

Depending on your age, if you're still in your late teens or early 20's, there's a chance that things could still change. A lot of guys gradually lose the chubby cheeks in their mid to late 20's as long as they're not gaining weight.

Yeah, we do have a post about this. Not sure where though.

When I was getting a haircut in TW, the stylist told me that Asians have more hair follicles than white people. And since most non-Asian stylistsóthat have little or no experience cutting Asian hair--can't really cut our hair.

Rule of thumb: never get your hair cut by a whitey. Asian hair is thicker, so whiteys have a hard time working with it. Now I'd like to be open minded and imagine there is a whitey out there who can cut Asian hair just as well as when they cut the hair of their own, but I have yet to see such an awesome white hair stylist.

My advice? Hit up chinatown and get your hair cut by an old Asian chick. The more run down the joint looks, the better. It'll probably cheap, fast, but decent quality.

I'm definitely RFA as well as FNA (flat nosed Asian) and most brothas go for the nice-lookin' oval faced sistas with defined features, which sux.
I've also noticed that more American-born Asians are NFA. I think this is because babies are put to sleep on their backs in Asia (also Europe and Africa) and on their sides in America.

I know a lot of brothas that almost like AM RFA's more than they do AM NFA's. Maybe because their faces are more delicate. Unfortunately for the RFA's who like women this is not the case. At least from what I have been hearing.

RFA4life,

As a born-RFA from a whole family of RFAs, here's my two cents to add to some of the excellent replies you've already gotten:

1) Personality can overcome looks in most cases, and in those cases where looks are just more important to the girl (and there will be some of those, painful but true), you're probably better off not getting her anyway because she'll give you nothing but grief.
2) Assuming you still want to work on the RF just to feel better, this is what I've found to help over the years:
-- Working out, eating healthily and getting leaner. If you get lean it shows on your face, and a RF can can still look strong and masculine
-- Good haircut really does help. I live in a place w/o a lot of Asians, so I've always gone to white stylists, and I finally found a guy who's just really good (also very expensive, but worth it). He did some things like cutting v-notches in my hairline up top instead of straight across, to add texture and making the top stand up more even w/o gels, and making my head look longer. He also had me grow sideburns until they could be trimmed right at the narrowing line of my cheek bones so that visually the line continues and makes the face seem narrower. It's just visual illusion, like wearing vertical stripes to make you seem thinner, but it does work.
-- Goatee works. If it comes out thin, try letting it come in, shave, then repeat several times. It will eventually get thicker. When I tried growing my first I used to skip shaving either Friday or Monday or both so I could sneak in a long weekend of growth without it being too obvious that I was trying to grow something, and it kept coming in thicker and thicker. Then over a holiday I was able to not shave for a week and when I did the goatee was okay looking and looked good in another week.
-- Age helps. Cattygurl is right -- RF looks more youthful, and when you hit middle age you'll naturally lose some of the fat in your face and if you're not too over-weight you can look very strong and younger than your age. Another benefit as you get older is that some women start considering status/wealth/power in their men, and a RF may convey those qualities more easily.

If all else fails with the chicks, concentrate on your career, make a lot of money, and then start a porn company.

You know, this discussion leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

It seems like each time we Asians try to unite, another issue is "brought up" that tries to divide us.

There are hundreds of things that can turn a potential mate off, and yes, facial structure is one of them--but it's definitely not the sole deciding factor.

In fact, how do you define an RFA? How round does your face have to be in order to be one?

If you're having trouble getting women (and I mean real women, not superficial girls), then I can tell you it's definitely not your facial structure, but probably some other unappealing personality trait.
</RANT>

btw, this wasn't directed at anyone in particular. It's just the constant arbitrary categorization of Asians, e.g. whiter skin, pointier noses, sharper features, hair, etc., and how it seems to divide us.

Now I don't know if the posters are intentionally saying this, but I sense 2 things: 1) a type of self loathing, and 2) these people seem to suggest that there exists a group of Asians that look more "white" and because of that, they have it better.

There IS a group of Asians who look more 'white' and therefore have it better. Same with Blacks, Hispanics, and even whites themselves (blonds vs. brunettes, anyone?). There IS a reason why Asian guys prefer busty, big eyed (therefore more 'caucasoid'), tanned but not naturally dark girls. There IS a reason why Asian girls prefer tall guys with 'sharper' features and 'narrower' faces. There IS a reason why Tyra Banks is more popular than Alek Wek. And that's because of white brainwashing. My brethren, we need to cast off the shackles of oppression! Unfortunately, colorism- 'ethnic looking'-ism still exists. And we must fight this shit.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: There is no such thing as "White" features.

Even if each race has predominant physical features. there exists a lot of variety with all of us that it shouldn't be attributed to resembling another race. People who attribute tallness, big eyes, and big boobs to having "White" features are merely victims of colonial mentality. These attributes can be found in all races. TS, if you associate those features as "White," do you think short, flat-chested WFs are more "Asian"? I hope not...

Fact is, a tall, light-skinned, busty AF is merely a tall, light-skinned, busty AF, and NOT an AF with White characteristics...
