Do digital cameras make people appear larger compared to film cameras? I know that it depends on the angle, etc but I was just wondering bc I notice that in most pix taken with digital cameras, my friends and I look a lot bigger than we really are. I just saw a pic of my friend where her gut looks huge and believe me, in person she has very flat abs. I don't really have this problem with film cameras btw.

Anyone with a lot of experience, knowledge?

I know some digital cameras can see sharper than our own eyes..

Also maybe its just the resolution on the view screen. If you print it out
probably, it'll look fine..

OR

if the Lens size on the camera is too small it can distort the proportion
of a subject..like if you take the pic too close it looks fucked up, but if
you take the pic from afar, all is fine?

The optics are all the same, the back end, whether it is a ccd array, or film is the only difference. That being said however, there are limitations due to the ccd technology including sensitivity etc. To make a long story short, it is most likely that the optics are not responsible, but other factors including lighting, sensitivity etc.

A lot of digital cameras have an optical zoom/widescreen lens. If someone is trying to take a picture in a very small space they will simply zoom out as far as possible to get the widest possible shot. The wide angle aspect will distort the image and can very well make people look rounder. If they aren't zoomed out all the way and it is still happening then I have no clue.
