View Full Version : Time to do it up right

Whassup folks,
I have been posting a bit here and there, in the every now and then sort of way. Most of them are rather serious / academic in nature so I figured I ought to loosen up here.
Let's see here... right, a short bio:
Mid Twenties. Born in HK, to Chinese parents, elder of their two sons. Emigrated to Canada in '89, where I met one of the Cores. I have to say that things worked out relatively well for me there - all things considered. Make awesome friends.
Got a degree in biomedical engineering, which is probably the least specific kind. Spent a year down in Silicon Valley, and now doing a short stint in Switzerland for basic bio research - but I've dabbled in all sort of work. Never been married (or enter into any equilvalent civil arrangements), and no kids. (Well, one can never be sure I suppose - women can be incredibily resourceful and headstrong... on par with men if not more.)
I was a skeptic of this site, and in fact my first post was rather confrontational... but I am glad to be proven wrong in my skepticism. In not so many words, I am mind-blown with how this place can galvanize ideas into action and with you great members - the bricks and mortars of the forums. Now that I have properly introduced myself, I hope to be able to post more often and interact with y'all.
Here for a myriad of reasons - right now I am trying to jumpstart some personal development and figured that I should give this emotional sincerity idea a try.
Cheers, and call me Gordon.

good deal, Gordon. it'll be nice reading more from you. i always look forward to reading (and sometimes re-reading b/c it don't all fit in the first try) your posts. good luck with your personal development. Hope it's as fun/interesting for you as it is for me (but maybe not as frustrating, eh?)

Damn, Lopan check this, Gord pulled a pseudo-REVEAL!

Hey guys, thanks for the shout out.
The system in Switzerland is very similar to NA, but it has its own oddities. For one thing, they have direct democracy - so people take more ownership in governance. The system is heavily based on trust here - you can imprison people in your hotel rooms, not pay transit fare, etc. (Which is why some native Swiss are wary of opening up immigration - since people from elsewhere buck the system so much.)
The scenary is beautiful, the people (I deal with an international crowd here) are great. It is close to pretty much everywhere in Europe. (And select spots in Africa and Middle East as well!) My job is good, slacking a bit, but it is not for me in the long run.
Personal development is extremely frustrating. I have reached the point where I can see what my separate problems are, but no idea how to solve them - probably because I don't see the connecting theme. Of course I will need to think much more about this...
And yes Dialectic, it's a pseudo-reveal - I thought it is hilarious that it works on so many levels. Though I should probably toy with people some more in the "post you pic" thread, it ought to be fun. :)

Thanks Catty!
Yeah, I am big into the facts too like you - I find it extremely annoying when people start spitting based on incomplete or blatantly wrong information... I will be all up and like "where did you get that dope yo?"
I hope to get in more, crack some jokes with y'all and chat about subjective stuffs as well. Out of curiousity, where do you ladies usually hangout? I tend to focus more on world events, media, integral slanted, and omega attractors... Well that and fight club to check what the latest beef is and if it is a mad cow or not. Not so much up in the arts.
See you out there!
Gord

Btw Catty, where does your sig comes from?
it comes from one of Mr. Reilly's OAC Biology booklets. Remember having to go around the room in production-line fashion stapling those things together?
(joking)
Good to have you here, man. The 44s are stronger.

My sig is actually from a line from the novel, Fight Club, except instead of Jack, I'm Jill... get it....
Yes, fight club was a (good) novel before it was a movie.

Thanks for having me and putting the effort to communicate what you are doing to the gang back in the hay-days.
Damn, I forgot about the booklets... and when I realised that I forgot about that I realised there are lots of things that I probably forgot too. BTW: there aren't really an ISG anymore, the school library runs the website. And I think the only ones left that we probably do remember would be Snider, Danilowitz, Mulqueen and Christenson.

:) I figured it was from a "jack" saying... but it didn't register. I am afraid that I am not very well read (fictions at least) or well seen (so many movies I ought to have watched) person. One reason why I tend to light on the art forums here.
There are lots of activities, and things are bubbling up around here - craziness.[/quote]
