I know that may sound like a deep question but I like to know what makes other here keep going.
I mean do you live to be successfully, make money, find love ,God, famliy , etc.
If you think about we are all going to die someday but inbetween birth and death we just live a life going to school, working and that's pretty much it.
Having God can give you meaning but not everybody is a believer. So I like to know why keep going ?

my main purpose in life is to better myself, and secondarily the world around me. every moment is an opportunity for me to grow in different ways. usually this consists of me studying, exercising, trying to keep an open mind and trying to maintain balance in my life. most recently, i've been trying to gain a great awareness/understanding with the unseen or spiritual world. i'm not religious and i used to be quick to dismiss any sort of spiritual phenomon as unknowable and therefore a waste of my time. But due to many factors, i'm trying to open myself more to it.
I'm not trying to be superman or what not, i'm just trying to be the best me. do i think my life has a purpose? i think whatever it's purpose will be is up to me. haven't quite figured out what it is yet besides that i want to continue to grow and better myself. yeah, the question arises "well why better yourself?" i haven't discovered the answer yet, but everything feels right about the path i've placed myself on. so i guess i'll see.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.
Sorry, I'm just kidding around, I just finished watching Tae Guk Gi and it really moved me. It was very difficult to watch, because I hear stories from my parents who grew up during the war, so much of it really hit home for me.

My motivation in life is to find my motivation in life. Sorry, it's the best I've got.

Same here - I've actually been getting into some pretty strange shit. The old saying proves true - the more I know, the more I realize just how little I know. I really gotta give up drinking, though. Doesn't mix too well with those kinds of pursuits.

Or else my name is not Conan the Barbarian (I swear I have never seen this movie!).

Or else my name is not Conan the Barbarian (I swear I have never seen this movie!). :lol:It's a paraphrase of a Ghengis Khan quote. The writers of the movie must have been fans. The actual quote I will provide when I get home. In the meantime my favorite Khanism would be:
"Oh people, know that you have committed great sins. If you ask me what proof I have for these words, I say it is because I am the punishment of God. If you had not commited great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you!"
My motivation is life is to get to a level where I can drop out. It's not much but it keeps me slaving at my office day to day.

Here's the Ghengis Khan quote according to Harold Lamb the biographer:
One day in the pavilion at Karakorum he [Genghis Kahn] asked an officer of the Mongol guard what, in all the world, could bring the greatest happiness.
"The open steppe, a clear day, and a swift horse under you," responded the officer after a little thought, "and a falcon on your wrist to start up hares."
"Nay," responded the Kahn, "to crush your enemies, to see them fall at your feet -- to take their horses and goods and hear the lamentation of their women. That is best."
Some such as Joseph Campbell have alternatively suggested the line "to hold dear to your chest their wives and their daughters" instead of "the lamentation of their women." Not sure where the disparity comes from.
The other Genghis Khan reference is in Conan's loyal friend and fellow warrior in the movie who is named "Subotai." One of Genghis's Khan's most trusted generals was named Subotai. He is famous for overrunning Russia and mercilessly slaughtering two large European armies with ease in Eastern Europe. Apparently Howard, the creator of Conan, was quite impressed with the great Khan and used him as part of his inspiration for his stories.

I have three motivations in life.
My first motivation is to reproduce. I want to have sex, have children and pass on my genes. This is every living thing's basic motivation in life.
My second motivation is material wealth. I know that sounds rather shallow and maybe it is. But life is physical. In my experience, physical happiness brings emotional happiness. Life is what we see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. And I'd like to see, hear, smell, touch, and taste the best things money can buy.
My third motivation in life is knowledge. I'm an intellectual person by nature and I have a raging hunger to know more about everything. This is not necessarily because I believe that knowledge = power. It doesn't always. I just have an innate desire to acquire more knowledge abou the world.

I'd say that's actually a very good (and non-shallow) set of fundamental motivations. Balanced development along psychosexual, financial, and cognitive lines is essential for healthy living.

My motivation is my mother and family.
Why? My mother left her husband and went across the country just so she could raise her children away from certain lifestyles. She sacrificed so many of her dreams for us and she worked hard EVERYday. I feel that I will never truely know all that she has done for me and so, I am motivated to make her proud and hope that one day I can give her the life she lost to save her children.

Me? Become the happiest bloke in existence. :D
The thought of finding a lady who'd be daring enough to pop a few mini-Minhs into the world is also something pleasant to look forward to!

I have two theories about happiness. First, it doesn't really exist, so chasing after it is fruitless. The second theory (and the one I lean more towards) is that happiness isn't really a motivation or goal. Rather, it's a way of living.

But what is the meaning of your life BTB?
As for Seoulbrother, two people had to slog through a lifetime of shit in order for him to be where he is now. One of them was my grandfather, whom I have never met. The other is my mother. While I am unable to undo those things which caused so much hardship in their lives, want to make sure that those injustices are not suffered by others.
In the meantime, I would like to be happily married and have children (a daughter and a son), but that might not be possible for me in this life.
What you want to do and what you have to do in life are most often two different things. How we achieve those objectives (or how we don't achieve them) is what gives meaning to our lives.

Here's another one...from a bumper sticker: "Whoever said money can't buy happiness has never had either."
When someone with money complains about being depressed for whatever reason, I just laugh. True, just cuz a person is rich doesn't mean that s/he wouldn't have reasons to be unhappy. But I'm far more concerned with poor people who are sad. Compared to these unfortunate folks, rich people are just whiners :x

I have been in a very cynical mood lately and I am starting to think that the main motivation in many people's lives is NOT to get caught. The ends justify the means. My comfort and convenience is paramount to others. I am always right and how dare you question me. This is not my attitude, itís what Iím getting from neighbors, people on the road, work, etc.
"I'll drive 8 mph over the speed limit which is faster than the speed limit but not quite enough to get nailed by the cops"
"I canít wait for ALL these cars to drive by, Iíve got to go NOWî
"Those people are never home during the day, I'll let my dog pee in their yard. They'll never know"
ěItís a tight market out there; Iíve got to fuck over everyone who is not in a position of powerî
ěI donít know/understand that person, I have nothing in common with them; therefore, I want nothing to do with them.î
ěI didnít do anything wrong, I donít see whatís wrongî
People take and take and give nothing back. I am really starting to hate people.
You know what, f*ck them all.

I keep going on each day knowing I will get my twin KITTYS back form the USA. Also, I know I will go for a HIGHER paying job. I will finally have a family with my husband and twins. I do want to save money FROM my future checks. I want to just enjoy growing old with my man, M & M ( my twins). If I don't have a baby, oh well, their are more than enough kids in the world anyways. I have two little girls in my family. My sisters girls. I can spoil them!!!! :D That is what KEEPS me going every single day.." I miss the girls and my twins.."

Ill have to borrow from B. I think he summed it up best. Except for the bit about being open minded to the spiritual world. Now that I work for a global company, using a language not my own... theres plenty of room to grow.
Much work to be done.
