I recently saw a Dove soap commercial that pissed me off. I already contacted Dove and Asianmediawatch and am awaiting their responses.
In the commercial, they feature before shots of women wearing lots of make up, and after shots of them wearing none. There are four women in the commercial (I think). The first one is an asian woman, wearing a kimono and geisha make up. The next three women are white. One is a business woman type, the other is a show girl, and the other is an older woman.
Notice that the asian woman is singled out as the "ethnic" one? Jeez, what a way to sell soap? If the commercial had used a diverse array of women of many ethnicities, in their different costumes and make ups then I wouldn't have been upset at all but the fact that the AF is seen as the "foreign" one is pretty typical of how AAs are seen in this country, regardless of how many generations we've been around.

Let us know if anything develops. A petition might be in order, I think.

Boycott Dove and tell them why. I hate the damn product, anyway... bleh! They spend million of dollars a year to have dermatologists push their crappy stuff- seriously. My friend's dad used to receive free vacations and shit for promoting the stuff as a dermatologist.
It's not a good product to start with.

Just emailed Dove as well.
I think this commercial was created by the ad agency that was featured in the Apprentice. Not sure, can anyone confirm it?

It's been over eight hours and I have not received a response from either Dove or asianmediawatch. Has anyone else seen this commercial yet besides me?

I know exactly what you are talking about
Pretty blantant racism or ignorance. It's along same lines of that Enzyte Male enhancement pill commerical with jp workers and that one dumbass white guy.
Anyways AMW has alot of things that are attending to Ellen such as whole tsunami thing. I emailed James about Gwen shyte and they are holding that until Tsunami Incidents and issues are taken care of

Are you saying dermatologist recommendations can't be trusted? Oh no :(

The Dove commercial came about because the Dove people rejected Apprentice (the tv show) candidates' commercials as lousy (one had homosexual overtones and the other was unaesthetic). Looks the apprenctice candidates' commercials trumped the Dove's own creation.

More than that, back in school we spoke to a former CEO of Unilever, and he indirectly admitted that Dove dissolves faster than other soaps. They also encourage, when they can, the use of soap containers that leave water pooled at the bottom to further increase replenishment rates.

I saw the snippet of that commercial, specifically of the Japanese women in her geisha regalia, and then without any make-up.
Unfortunately, I think this is Dove's miss-ass-guided attempt to go about their "real beauty" campaign, something about showing other, i.e. non-white people, as beautiful too.
Something like that. I just remember seeing that catchphrase and a URL after they showed the jpn woman without makeup.

So it's been about two weeks now. I've written to unilever as well as Dove itself. COWARDS!
