Hey everyone I'm David coming from the cultural barren lands of San Diego, I'm 22 and am currently finishing up my bachelors in Media arts and Animation.
I'm glad to have stumbled onto this site, you have no idea how frustrating it is for me to move from a place like Oakland to some place like San Diego, where I got a big oversized spoonful of subtle bigotry and more recently(probably backlash from the Chai Vang Incident) outright in your face "go back to your country you chink" flavor of racism. I've been bearing it for 4 years now and I'm frustrated, I'm no longer able to hide my frustrations, So here I am to vent, and to share my stories.

Whassup Yellowmind, welcome to the 44s, glad you're aboard.
Thanks for sharing a piece of your life with us. We understand your frustrations; keep your head up!
If you haven't already, please check out our Declarations of Intent (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=1) to learn about our vision and stance (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=536). Rules of Engagement (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=29)offers guidance for the type of posting we want to see here, and Integral Slanted (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=39) discusses the more complex aspects of Integral Theory and Practice, the principles of which we use to develop this site, and on which I conduct my life.
Finally, you now have access to Sleeper Cells (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=14), NC-17 (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=9), and Fight Club (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=28). The first lets you know if any 44s are getting together in your area; the latter two forums contain the most controversial and least reasonable discussions, so read them for fun but don't take them too seriously or think that they represent The Fighting 44s in any way, other than we like to kick up shit.
Thanks for joining, and have some fun!

Hey! We should meet up for some good food and good chattin'!
Makulita, are you in SD, too?

I'm living near the borderline East county College area... Don't get me wrong, it may have come across as me saying SD is full of bigots but its not any nearly as bad as that, but it is pretty conservative here (I do get harassed by cops quite often here mostly in north county tho,) and quite frankly I am the polar opposite, infact my roomate is a very conservative christian republican...(he's Japanese/Chinese descent) and we argue alot mostly about what we consider to be ART..
Umm yea Oakland... I miss it.. yea I'll first admit there more social meshing between minorites here in San Diego, but its on the account of us being singled out in various occasions, strength through numbers..
And Makulita, about my attempt at my degree.. umm ask away I try and answer as much as I can....
As for the food and chattin thing I'm always up for it

Art Institute of California - San Diego its located in mission valley.. Like most trade schools its uber corporate.. but the students there help create a creative atmosphere.
Makulita, sorry to say but we don't actually offer a "comic book drawing course" as a class or anything but it is a scene we fully embrace, we offer lots of seminars on drawing and lining techniques and such, its nothing official, but the support is definitely there, plus the school lets us cut class for comicon.. Some of our staff members/students were former comic book artists.. And they do teach thing like inking and painting comics and such.. And working on such projects(comics) is highly encouraged. I hope that kinda answers your question..

Errgh, yeah I know, I keep forgetting what category comic books would fall into, media arts, animation're illustration...latter's obvious but then its for the newspaper funnies or something.
But no worries! What you said is really helpful because the hurdle I didn't really wanna jump is like...artist vs. artist animosity. Since from my observation and *koff*...just..uh..one encounter was that the people who were doing the comic book career were looked down on and mocked. But its good to know that its technically not really, y'know, like that. :D
