View Full Version : The Blue Yardstick

da Tao, we still have Blues. Remember two things:

1) It's important to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy Blue
2) Even unhealthy Blue is welcome if its presence is not degenerative.

Ah Yes, I did forget about the first point. And as for the second point of
degeneration, what is your system boundary? Because maybe keeping him busy in here could save a life or two. (I concede this is a purely conjectual, unknown-gain versus known-loss argument. Feel free to ignore.)

I have had it with this irrelevant bullshit. Going through the forum is like a chore now thanks to some of these assholes, and I'm still doing the majority of actual moderation.

I hear you, pruning out the bad is not the problem - rather it is how to recover the good. In the end, the mods ripped out 3K's irrelevant part in the ADD thread in order to restore the help it was giving to people. The puppy dog analogy is not inappropriate when you have to put out fires without stopping the guy with the matches. (BTW, I think the line was peeing on the carpet, not shitting.)

Goodbye 3k. I just want to say that if you choose to start something on your own, we'll support ... ah fuck it, your shit is gahbage.

Also, I'm curious: why do we need a yardstick? And what exactly will we be measuring by comparing it to pathological Blue?

There are two answers for this. (Though, not knowing what exactly your phase two entails, this might be completely rubbish.)

The Absolute answer is that it helps people not familiar with ITP (like me) to SEE what a pathological Blue is like - and when you bounce other colours off of them you can also get an "indirect probe". In short, a living case study.

Hmm... The sad thing here is, there are too many co-pathologies (what you termed as stupidity) to make a good example. Having an intelligent, crafty Blue (pathological or not) that can seduce you into joining is both much more dangerous and much more satisfying to deconstruct. (Even though they may never admit they are wrong.)

The Relative answer is that it helps people figure out where they are / where they should be heading. I was at a loss for words last night... instead of yardstick I meant milestone. (One imperial unit versus another, eh?) Sometimes it helps to say, "Hey, at least I am not like that guy."

I am going to be cryptic say this: In order to figure out which direction you should be heading, you need a vector. In absence of an arbitrary compass, you need at least two points and polarity between the two points to establish a direction. And the further away the two points are, the bigger and longer the arrow is, the easier it is for people to figure out which way the arrow is pointing - the (proverbially) near-blind and the lazy would not have to squint and put their nose to the page to get the message.

Finally da Tao, have you read all of my responses to your questions in I-Slanted thus far? What do you think?
Yes I have! I have STARTED to draft my responses... but as always it is not too early to express my thanks for the elucidation. :)

Finally, this poll is split from my post from another thread no? Because I was surprised to find that I started a poll asking members if 3K should be banned! I am not offended or anything, but I thought it is SOP to throw an edit in. (If this is another forum with another mod, I would seriously consider the possibility of being setup.)

I should've been clearer. Those are actually da Tao's responses.
