Thought I would start a list of helpful stuff that I use

spybot search and destory
and adaware to scan for spyare

also get mozilla firefox...much better IMO than Internet explorer. Though I don't know I am using IE right now...lol, but some sites do have problems with firefox, but most work without a problem, I have gotten less spyware since I started using firefox more.

I like the Outpost Firewall.

You have to install it before all the bullshitware gets on the computer, though.

Linkified:

Spybot Search & Destroy (http://spybot.info/en/index.html)

Adaware (http://lavasoft.de/)

I second the push for Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/). The best thing about Firefox are the extensions (https://update.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox).

Check out Adblock (https://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=10&vid=664). You can teach it to block all types of ads (especially those annoying Flash ads that have sound).

I like the Outpost Firewall.

Nice, I'll have to check it out.

In the mean time, if you want a free firewall, check out Kerio (http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_download.html).

anytime you need an email to sign up for something but don't wanna use your real one, there's a service designed specifically for this. it creates an email address that expires in 7 days and requires no registration info...all you have to do is type a stupid name in the box and press enter.

Tor (http://tor.eff.org/download.html.en)

It's a great proxy if you need that kind of thing. I use it for my "computer security" pursuits ..... ::looks over shoulder:: Nope, no FBI agents... yet.

How many times has this happened to you if you use more than 1 computer for your internet surfing? You're at your work/school computer and you need to check on a website but it's bookmarked on your home computer? You can't remember the url and it wasn't that easy to find on google.

Foxmark is application that works with Mozilla and you can synchronize your bookmarks to their server. http://www.foxmarks.com/ On any computer you install foxmarks, you can login and access your bookmarks and add new ones. The default setting is the safest setting, it will include all bookmarks from all locations.
