This is an email ZhaoGao sent me in the summer of 2002 while he was writing some badass exams. I had just written him a very frustrated email over how badly things were going in my job-hunt and with my family, and this was his response:

You can't let it eat you up 'cause you have no control over it. I use to get nearly violent with anger, but that didn't help. Maybe I've become callous to such matters now, or maybe I'm too embittered with other things.

I was writing a midterm today when I realized how freakin' pathetic everyone in the room writing this midterm is. Everyone (myself included) looked so sickly from cramming in useless techno jargon.

While walking through campus, I had was lucky enough to listen to this classically-indoctrinated Chinese fool rant about how you need good marks or you won't get a job. This automaton remarked how his 'friends' don't seem to realize this profound 'truth' and they will suffer for it. Of course he's right; I should enslave myself to this demerit system so I may then become a slave to a soulless corporation which sells useless products that do not enhance the human experience but actually degrade it. Man, it's people like this who support Friends for 7+ painful years. March on Corporate America's perfect little soldier! March on! He is an example why immigration should be reduced!

You should give me a call sometime this weekend, I've got more where that came from and plenty of observations about fat chicks.

BTW, the 2nd Season Buffy DVDs kick some major arse! It's Buffy at her best before she bit the anorexia bug.

i definitely can relate to a lot of what he says about being a slave to the academic system. there are times i'm just like "fuck it, i'm not going to let this shit dictate my life flow." but then i do find myself worrying more about grades nowadays. i don't know, i guess achievieng perfect grades has become a goal (i just have to be reasonable about it. no over stressing if i come up short, but also have to keep myself from slacking if the day should come that i no longer can achieve that goal.)

I should enslave myself to this demerit system so I may then become a slave to a soulless corporation which sells useless products that do not enhance the human experience but actually degrade it.

that line, especially the bold part, really hit me. i mean sure i enjoy the products i buy, but the question that this quote throws out at me is "but at what cost?" Shit i'll think about. i sometimes wonder if the world is a better palce because of modern complexities (consumerism for example)

It sucks that ZhaoGao isn't able to contribute on here. dude has definitely got some interesting shit to say.

lol. the second season of buffy was my favorite too (altho more plot wise than Buffy bod wise. but come to think of it, he does have a point. SMG definitely looked better with the curves IMHO.)

Second season of Buffy was definitely the height. Angel is hard to say. Probably the last (season 5). It was just filled with so much good shit. And of course all of Firefly.

It's not that ZG's not able, it's that he cares too much. He gets really worked up about this shit, he LIVES this shit, and as a matter of fact one day a couple months ago he and a former buddy of ours (former not as a result of what I'm about to say), Shiro119 on this forum, got into a heated argument about whether the 44s were just a bunch of losers who whined and never did anything, ZG was trying to defend them, trying to make him see he WAS them, that there's a reason they're like this, and he got so pissed he started yelling, stormed out of the bar, and I thought I'd lost my ride home.

I like the story about ZG trying to get a cellphone from a store run by these Chinese, and purposely asking for a number with as many 4's as possible. I'd imagine the disbelief on these guys faces would be priceless.

Ha ha yeah, when ZG moved to this city a few months ago, he went to get a phone. He was in a store with a ton of Chinese customers and salespeople, and he asks loudly, "I'd like to get as many FOURS in my number as POSSIBLE."

Everyone stops and stares at him.

They offered him a number with like five fours in it, but he ended up getting one with less (only three) 'cause he didn't want his family and superstitious Chinese friends to be too nervous calling him.
