Asian Dub Foundation

Whassup.

So every now and then, I like to think that I'm the only guy out there not listening to hip-hop all day long and following the latest trends in rap. But I know that isn't true.

Does anybody else know Asian Dub Foundation or any other Asian/South-Asian influenced music that they like and that ISN'T hip-hop/rap? Not that I have anything against hip-hop/rap, but I just like something different and I was wondering if there's anybody else out there like me and could help me expand my horizons, too.

Maybe some Ravi Shankar mixes? Or some of Tosca's new stuff (Suzuki, Dehli9)? And more fundamentally Kruder and Dorfmeister (I guess they're not really Asian influenced, but they're just so good, can't get by without 'em.

Any good East/South Asian techno DJs or anything?

I am into Karsh Kale. I'm not a giant fan, but I do periodically listen to the artists you mentioned.

I love Yoji Biomehanika and Tsuyoshi as well as, as I mentioned before, Ubar Tmar and Uni.

Satoshi Tomiie is alright. Deep Dish, real hit or miss.

Sotoshi Tomiie I've heard great things about but never listened to. Gotta agree with you on Deep Dish - total hit or miss. Kinda like Perfecto. I like labels like Ministry of Sound, Bargrooves, Global Underground and stuff.

Yeah, y'know I never even knew that they had much Goa in Asia (except India, I knew about it there, but never Japan). I fuckin' love Goa, especially Infected, Xerox, Hallucinogen, and all them big names. I really gotta check out this Ubar Tmar and Uni shyte, and never heard of Yoji Biomehanika or Tsuyoshi but will look into it.
