New member Intro: The Mountain

Hello all.

I linked over here from another BBS that referenced the BS behind the April Details magazine article. Wouldve just lurked and left, but I read that article from "Gen Tojo" about "azn chasin crackers" and thought I'd add my $67.85 (two cents was in the 50's...this is '04)

SO let me introduce myself.

For those that dont "speak" Japanese, Kuroyama translates to: black mountain. I am a very large Black man that speaks, reads, and writes JP.

People gotta ask: "why the JP influence... its the girls right???"

Oddly enough, its usually JP and white guys that ask me that. Or they assume that I was military and got stationed in JP for many years. NO ONE ever says: "Oh, you learned a foreign language in school huh?" I used to get angry about it. Cant a Brotha go to school??? Why does all his education gotta come from the street???

Now I just shrug it off. They dont know me. And after 15 years of this, of all the other things I've learned... I've learned that there AINT a whole lotta Brothas speaking JP. So its not like people have a whole lot of examples to go from.

I got into this whole thing as a kid growing up on Godzilla, kung fu flicks (yeah thats CMA, I know... you dont understand the difference when youre a 5yr old Black kid), Japanese animation, and of course, learning about feudal JP in elementary school. So I thought it would be cool to learn the language, and I did.

Growing up in So Cal, you learn a lot about different cultures and that a lot of what you learn ISNT what you see in the movies, TV or hear about in stereotypes. When you learn the language... You learn that a lot of what you get fed from the media has been spun, misunderstood, or just plain made up.

Anyway. Im a Brotha with issues, but I can usually hold up my end of a conversation. So I hope to contribute.

I think I might be able to offer more than you think... you just gotta erase one color and put in another...

Quick portrait: Star Trek. Imagine Captain Sisko (yeah, the Black one...3rd season...bald head), but picture me a little bigger than Worf (taller and bigger)...but for a living I do Lt. LaForge's job (Systems Engineer).

Now take it back about 20 years.

Back in high school I still had the build (being on the swim team and all....and no, there weren't a whole lot of "us" on the team...just me, the 1st one in the history of that high school)... I come from a middle class background. No BMW, no fast-and-furious cars for me. Just mad BUCKET. I dressed average, and had an average personality.

I got ZERO play from my sistas. None. Where I come from, you came with the ride or you got no ride. From what Ive heard about other classmates over the years, most of the "cool" guys from high school ended up broke, unemployed, or worse. The girls that dated them... Finally started noticing the "quiet" Brothas... but we were in our mid twenties then... already getting play from everyone else on the planet. (German, Russian, French, Australian, I could go on but I wont here) Whenever youd pass them at the club with another (not Black) girl on your arm youd get looks... But as I told one girl that got loud about it...

"I ASKED you to dance way back when... but you dont remember me 'cause you couldnt see me then. Now I got more money, a JOB, and someone ELSE on my arm... NOW you see me! You see too late."

So heres the moral to this little tale:

The honeys just dont "see" you yet. Dont sweat it. They will. The problem is... it wont be until some bad-guy has gotten them pregnant and left, abused them, stolen from them, or until you've found someone else (TRUST me my young Asian Brother they'll SEE you then!!!)

I dont claim that ALL Black girls are like that though. From what I understand the girls in the East-U.S.(despite having great a$$) acutally value a man with a brain and job over bling bling and a ride with DVD player, GPS, Jordans, and a payment so big the car will get repoed in 13 months. The girls in the West though... You just gotta be patient. They will find you.

In the meantime stay focused on what YOU have to do.

School/career. You have to set up the foundation for the family you will provide for one day. No day is too soon to start. The right girl will come along. And when I say "right" Im not talking about that "perfect" love/sex-in-the-city/fairytale romance crap.

Im talking about a pretty girl with a nice body (not Jessica Rabbit) that has an IQ higher than her shoe size, can cook, and understands what family means.

There are girls you bang, and girls you marry. LOL, but thats a whole different thread now isnt it?!

Welcome to the site. Always good to see new people, especially when they bring different perspectives. Just a word of warning - seems like infighting has been on the rise in here, lately, and there's a lot of misdirected anger floating around.

Welcome to the 44s; thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us, and I hope you stick around.

Back in the day, I was also on the swim team, had a deep yet average-appearing personality, and just generally didn't really know whassup, but that changes, we grow, the folks around us grow, and hopefully we all become a bit better a day at a time.
