View Full Version : We Engage in Active Forum Moderation

So we've received a few requests from people to take a more active role in moderating these forums, including some notes that some people are actively avoiding this site because it's ostensibly too full of hate and misogyny and stuff like that.

Now before you go off half cocked and accuse us of losing our edge and selling out and becoming fascist and shit, I just want to say that Core 44 is just considering these requests. You've heard it all before, but we'd like to see the site grow and not become corrupted, so we pretty much have to take into consideration such things, like it or not.

Note that we're also in the possible hunt for some volunteers (probably one or more of the more prolific posters) to take over hall monitor duty and taking all the wedgies that come along with the sash. We might be in contact with a few of youse later on.

So if one of us in the meantime locks a thread or deletes posts or whatever, don't take it personally or anything like that. Me? I'm just concerned about not finishing work and getting consumed by this site because it's like ethnic crack, and while personally I couldn't give two fucks about you guys taking it to the mattresses with each other (unless it's attacking one of my boys, because that'd be stupid), I'd totally prefer if you don't look at us like we're dickheads with a god complex, because we aren't. Once again, we have a vision and we hope you can see it and grow with it and all that noble idealistic crap I'm beginning to think is a total waste of time but I'm an idiot and I cling onto such stuff because life is that much more unbearable without it.

So stay strong, all. And pray that this site doesnít go to complete shit too fast.

Just my two cents:

The jack-offs posting hateful misogynistic crap (which can be argued that I'm sometimes one such jack-off . . . . ) lacking thoughtful drive behind it will eventually burn out and disappear.

I find that the best -low maintenance- measure is to simply ignore them and never reply. They feed on the attention given to them.

Or else, I can certainly see that it may be a bandwidth conservation matter. Which I understand you should delete these jack-offs. (But then they could just simply start a new membership. So the fight never ends with a "ghost".)

As far as those offended by what is said on here. Well . . . that's the woes of a FREE SPEECH community. People say what they want and the "marketplace" of alternative thought will sort it out. The right to disagree and speak against prevailing ideas.

To be in this arena, you need THICK SKIN . . . .
(Otherwise, you just aren't as commited as you thought.)

If someone talks shit about you on this thread, IGNORE IT. It's a pseudo "cyber" community anyhow and you all are using an ALIAS. So don't take it so personally. Nobody knows anybody on here anyhow. (Except me.)

In the end, WE'RE ALL JUST TALKING SHIT.
Invest yourselves in the REAL LIFE you live, not on this "virtual" world.

Laughing at it all,

- Wyn Ngo

Yuck, I can't stand it when people on forums like this complain about what I dub Internet Persecution.

It's the fucking Internet people! If you let freaking text offend you, then I suggest you put down your textbook activism for a second and consider this:

there is no other form of dialogue where people can be totally honest (or dishonest) with their opinions and not be scared of physical retribution. The 'Net ain't ancient Athens, it is anarchy.

Think about that next time before some of you piss and moan about Internet Persecution.

I agree to a great extend here. Getting offended is one thing but letting apologetic/PC/sellout posts here all "PEACE TO THE WORLD" is damn unacceptable in the 44s' forum.

44 hears your comments, and for a large part, we totally agree.

For now, we're just limiting the more heavy-handed moderation to personal attacks. Feel free to express your bad-ass opinion... but if you feel the need to trash some individual, take it to PM or email, and refrain from feeding your ego and posting it on the forum, because that really all it is, isn't it? Trying to feed your ego by entertaining an audience with how clever you are for making some poor individual bastard feel like shit?

So yeah, take it up over PM in these cases. Reserve your venom for a grander cause.

So continue to let the anger flow. 44 will have other war council meetings to determine where we want to take the site.

Trust in 44. We won't steer you wrong.

Whassup y'all,

I've been offline for two weeks, and the forum has grown by about 50% in that time, and shit is OFF THE HOOK.

Despite a few lapses and regression here and there, we're actually quite proud of the forum's drive toward intelligence, its sense of humor, and its growing ability to self-regulate.

You'll be seeing some changes here and there in the coming weeks and months, and things will keep getting better and better.

As I understand it, the jackoffs with permanent IP addresses will be unable to participate in the forum even with a new membership. Am I correct in this assumption, Cores?

Additionally, the leadership of this site is VERY VERY careful not to stifle any of the flow. It's not so much that Internet Persecution is a big deal; but it does detract from the credibility of the site if it regresses to a point where every other post is people calling each other names. Hardly a stimulating read. I don't think it's out of line to ask that personal attacks be kept to a minimum, not because we give a shit about whose feelings are hurt, but so we can focus our energy on more important things. You know... like the issues at hand.
