so hey. i'm going to post a bio i have floating around on the internet, and then elaborate.

People say that Paolo has done more than the average seventeen-year-old, but less than the above average seventeen year old. Born September 4th, 1986, an Oakland native and high school recluse, Paolo has taken it upon his self to use digital media for cultural liberation, especially for contemporary Asian-Pacific Americans. He has been a stalwart member, volunteer, and supporter for various youth and media organizations in the San Francisco bay area, such as AYPAL (Asian Pacific Islander Youth Promoting Advocacy and Leadership), NAATA (National Asian-American Telecommunications Association), and Youth Sounds. When he's not getting rejected from prestigious film festivals, Paolo enjoys writing witty biographies about himself in the 3rd person. He goes to Diablo Valley College and is perpetually single.

i failed to have mentioned that i was filipino in that. oh well. with that said.

brought here by angry asian man.

i suppose you could say that i was "white-washed" as a kid. i perfer to use the word "colonized". i was a self-hating filipino/asian until i went to high school. i went to this all white presitgious prep school in marin county for the first three months of my high school career on a full scholarship. when i realized that there weren't any asian kids at that school. and to top it off, i was from oakland to boot. so all the rich kids asked me if i could score them drugs. which i couldn't. despit that, i was pegged as the ghetto kid.

and long story short, i left because i tried to commit suicide on the campus twice.

i didn't try to "become" filipino until i attended the san francisco international film festival, when i learned that there were other people going though what i was going though. we're one in the same. this is where i begin to start doing things for the API community in the bay area.

i'm sure i already said my objectives for api actvism (using media to change images and to disrupt existing social patterns to further our cause)

i would like to thank the 44's for giving me strength. in a time where everybody is being a pussy, i am amazed at the brute honestly and anger at this site. i may not as often as i should, but that's just my personality. to soak up what everyone else is talking about, and to stay back.

anyway, my film, "the jennifer lopez film retrospective" was rejected from the san francisco international film festival. it was a screeching punk rock train wreck of a film, invovling one white guy who wanted to take all the asian hoes for himself, and the only hero that could stop them. the moses of inter-racial dating. it's two parts "el-mariachi", one part "kill bill", a dash of "do the right thing", with a 99 pecent asian cast. and come on who wouldn't want to see a film where the asian guy kills the white guy talking all the women? "LET MY WOMEN GO!"

i think it had the best tagline ever: "WHAT THE FUCK, THIS AINT THE JOY LUCK CLUB". -- i'm looking to get a t-shirt made. i suppose that's going to be the motto of my production company, Super Giant Robot Mecha Rocket Punch Productions. i want to put asian-americans in non asian contexts.

it's not okay for an asian guy to do it. but a film was accepted about some jewish dude going out with a chinese girl. go fucking figure.

well thanks everybody. look forward to the revolution.

Whassup irony,

Holy crap man, I'm glad you're here and not dead or part of a cult. Turning your suffering into art, that's a beautiful thing, and I wish you all the best in that (sounds like a sweet movie, too, albeit with niche appeal).

In the words of Jeru the Damaga:

"This is for the seeds. 'Cause the seeds is what grows into the flowers, and the flowers is what gives us oxygen. So shine light and water the seeds."

Well we do have the "About Us" section.

(Which admittedly says nothing about us.)

We might eventually. Assuming we think we won't get shot by some crazy White or Asian muthafucka.

Pat the Great
Jun 8th, 2004, 05:57 PM
i'm pat.

born half filipino, half cracka (dad was adopted so i don't know how cracka my cracka roots are).

don't speak tagalog at all. been taking japanese for a few years because it's fucking hard to find tagalog in schools and chinese is too hard to read.

dig the asian girls, the white girls, it's all good here.

live in the san francisco east bay, in oakland.

work at the uc berkeley arcade right now, since it's summer.

go to school at Pitzer College, in Claremont, CA (socal).

i found this site via angryasianman. it's dope.

my hobbies consist of beating down crackas in video games (usually fighting games), reviewing computer games usually made by crackas, training so i can beat them down in jiu jitsu and shit, and up until recently, debating against crackas in high school.

just finished my first year of college, where there are a lot of ignant crackas. if any of you remember that stupid racist car vandalism stunt at Claremont (aam posted a few news tidbits about it), you might have some idea about what we deal with down there.

mom passed away when i was ~4 years old, and she was the filipino half, so i wasn't brought up as filipino as i could have been. rather, it was something i discovered in high school and college, when i met a lot of hella tight asian people and noticed i was more like them than i was like the majority of crackas at the school.

now in college, i'm an intern for the pitzer center for asian pacific american students (capas), during this coming year i'll be a sponsor for the asian american sponsor program, and i'm a member of the committee for social progress, a student led organization who petitioned for an emphasis in ethnic studies on campus following the racist shit that happened on claremont campus this last semester.

btw, the petition was inspired by, orchestrated, and largely led by a dope ass korean-american english teacher who taught us a class called asian american anger. he's definitely a far cry from the emasculated forum some of you all are calling asian american studies in college.

i don't post around here much but i check out the boards 2-3 times a day.

Hmm...a few things about me eh?

well first off, subversiveIrony is a good friend of mine, a partner-in-crime, and one of the most unique people I will ever know, hands-down.

Anyway, I'm a UCD student, 19 years old, Chinese, and a computer engineering major. I date Asian guys 99% of the time, I hate cracker-chasing bitches, etc ;p You guys rock. I program in C, C++, and HTML, if that counts, and right now I would write more if it weren't for class coming up in about five minutes soooo I'll leave you with that.

BTW vhg means violent hyper girl, and alita is the name of the angel in "Battle Angel Alita", also known as the "killing angel". It's the name I use on my Initial D card ;p wahahaha.

You know, I still haven't seen that video yet. I'm curious to know how it came out ;P besides it's obviously not every day that someone turns out a pornographic video that actually depicts an Asian man who is NOT asexual for once.

Hi all and special hi to all you mm-ers

I've been lurking here for a bit and I finally decided to break down and join up. I'm a 2nd gen Korean Am. I'm probably one of the older people here, I'm in my late 20s but don't act like it at all. I have my own apt and am gainfully employed.

I used to be angry when I was younger, but in the past couple of years I've really mellowed out and it's more likely you'll find me in a good mood than a bad one. However, just because I'm happy doesn't mean I dont' notice racism, sexism, stupidity, hypocrisy or dishonesty.

Lastly, cooking/baking is one of my hobbies so if you want two good and easy recipes check the SIMPLE ASIAN RECIPES FOR GOOD EATING thread.

Hi I am also from MM.com, I don't know what gen I am, but I am 1st gen born in the US in my family with parents who were born in Cuba, so I am of three cultures bascially. I have deleted with many racial issues that have happened to me with my own group and other kinds of people. Family has been here for over 50 years in north america.

But really I'll probably lurk and post when I feel I can add some input, when I get home from NY, since 56k isn't cutting it to view all my forums.

Hi Andrew, welcome to the forum.

By the way, Asian Americans who are immigrants usually count themselves as first generation. Second generation is the US-born sons/daugters of immigrants. There are many Asian Americans who came to America at a young age and were brought up with influences from both America and another country. The term 1.5 generation is usually used for people in this situation (one definition is that you're 1.5 if you came to the US at the age of 13 or younger, but there is no single definition).

Hope you'll enjoy your time on the board!

yo, mister_x here, second generation away from the Thailand, the folks got married and moved to Canada for school then alot of my dad's side of the family came along as we moved farthere south and put our roots down in Texas. why, for the love of god TEXAS? i think my grandma's rationale for that was "the weather's just like Bangkok inthe summer!"

these days i play in a sci-fi metallic hardcore band called XvsO. its pretty fun playing the the Dallas music scene and being the only asian out representing at most shows. my friends think i'm the goddamn coolest because the X isn't anything but himself.

rainshowerz
Jun 15th, 2004, 12:37 AM
Hi everyone,
I'm rainshowerz, and I come from the land of, well, rainshowers--Seattle, WA. At this point, I should've changed my login name to Mz_WritesAlot since my email posts are quite lengthy. Sorry about that, but I can't help it! Like ellencho, I'm also in my late 20s.

My family and I first moved to Queens, NY. Even though I attended public school, I was one of three Filipinos in my school, and coming from the Philippines, I didn't know who to associate with. According to my classmates, my eyes were "chinky" enough to be Chinese, but my skin was dark enough to be Spanish. I was routinely called "chink" by a lot of kids. What they didn't expect was me coming out of nowhere and trying to beat the shit out of them for every time they called me "chink." Half the time, I'd lose, and it didn't matter who it was--I remember getting beat up on the same day by a Jewish boy and a Black girl (not together though)--but it was enough for people to realize that I could be randomly violent if provoked.

Then we moved to Seattle, WA, where I went to high school, college, and have been living here since. It wasn't until college that I finally did start learning (and becoming more defined) with Asian culture and identity. I didn't originally start out preferring to date Asian guys or have Asian friends in the beginning, but just gradually noticed that I was finding common ground with people of color, especially Asian folks.

Now that my college days are way behind me and I'm in the dotcom world, I've been using whatever wealth and privelege I've acquired to make my presence--as an Asian woman--known to the society at large. I don't try and change people's views and opinions--I simply let my name and my money do all the talking. Though I'm not rich, I'm no longer the broke college kid I used to be, and this fact alone has empowered me to use my hard-earned money to make a statement, however little it may be. This includes using my money to support Asian-American films, books, music, etc., that depict the Asian experience in an honest, unWhite-washed way, as well as using my name to support causes fueled by Asian-American outrage. It also involves NOT using my money to watch movies like "Last Samurai" and "Lost in Translation" that perpetuate Asian stereotypes, even if I'm the only one who hasn't seen them. And since it's easy for me to write lengthily about something, I use this skill to write letters of complaints to various media organizations that negatively stereotypes Asian people. The last letter campaign I wrote was to protest an ad for cosmetic eyelid surgery in the playbill of Flower Drum Song. Though it wasn't much, I got ten people, Asians and non-Asians, to sign my letter of complaint which ultimately resulted in the magazine's apology and promise (though we'll see) to screen their ads before printing. It's not much, considering what others have done, but I'm only getting started...

Thanks to everyone who's made me feel welcome since I joined...

Hey Rainshowerz,

I'm in my late 20s too. Korean American. I guess I'm kind of a ballbuster, but there's a certain chillness that I like about myself as I get older.

That letter writing campaign you started is awesome. I try to do a lot of volunteer and pro bono shit, which is strange given my utter disdain for humanity, but I go into a rage when I see our people get dissed.

Rock it.

However, let's eliminate the nonsense from the forums. We're here to discuss, talk, rant and postulate with intelligence and wit. One thing I despise is reading twenty posts of one liners and off-the cuff jabs -- a complete waste of my time and everyone else's.

you're here for a reason. Obviously you're intrigued by what is just beginning to happen. as a non-asian, your perspective is a very worthwhile one here on this forum. Make it count.

apparently some people are upset by my introduction. allow me to elaborate a bit.

i'm angered by ignorant people of all races, but i'd just like to point out whites more since they seem to make the majority of my encounters with ignorant people.

about the arrogant japanese comment i'm referring to those japanese supremacists who deny and those who even APPROVE what had happened during the rape of nanjing.

no i do not live in america nor do i hate its peoples. i'd like to specify, i hate BUSH. sorry to cause such a stir.

My name is Alexander J. Youn (the name on my birth certificate)
-My Korean name is Hojin. This is what my parents and family call me. But being that you're not my family, you can call me Alex.

I was born in Flushing, Queens, NYC, but raised in Jersey in an all white, Italian-American town in the middle of suburban paradise.

You can thank Missmel for my presence here. :D

If you want to hear my often not Asian oriented rants, you can browse my blog on Xanga. But unlike on here, I control my blog like an ironfisted dictator.

Former lurker to this webpage/board; discovered this place via a mention by the AngryAsianMan website... found the various topics and such to be quite interesting- and food for thought as well.

Myself, I'm an American-Asian Male (or Asian-American, if you will) of Chinese descent situated in the Southern California vicinity. As you might have guessed, I'd probably lean much closer towards being part of the "Sell-Out" strata than not.

Admittedly though, some of the things that I've heard on this board (mainly) about the attitudes of the other full-on Asian "Sell-Outs" (of the female persuasion especially) have left me a bit disturbed, perturbed, and somewhat aggrieved. But it's more along the principles than the actualities, since I happen to have relatives who have married outside of their ethnic origins. I know, it's not something that would be readily advocated here (of all places), but I'm not all that close to them though, so really I can't say that I would have a problem personally with them going that route.

Anyways, that's all I wanted to say on my very first post here- keep up the good work.

Interesting - a whole bunch of us are from Queens, perhaps they put something in the water there that makes asian mommies and daddies extra fertile?

ABC in NYC
Jun 22nd, 2004, 10:47 AM
Ellen,

Queens has the BEST looking Asians. Didn't you know that?

Me:

31. Chinese (I don't really consider myself American anymore, except by birth). Born in Manhattan and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (more like Beirut, Brooklyn these days). Dad is from Guangzhou. Mom is from HK (same thing). I speak English and Cantonese fluently. I hang out with mainly other ABCs or ABKs (and a bunch of FOBs from Mainland China and Taiwan) around the city.

Hobbies/interests: movies, music, reading, writing, cooking, hiking, camping, fishing, shooting, biking, kayaking, rappelling, etc.

I've never really experienced much racism in my neighborhood as a kid growing up....even though I lived in a lily white neighborhood. This MAINLY has to do with having older cousins that would routinely beat the shit out of white boys that would start with us. I had a few occasions where some white boys would try to start some shit and they'd stop and say, "Hey, isn't he _____'s cousin?" After that, they'd just stop, apologize and walk away.

ABC in NYC
Jun 22nd, 2004, 10:58 AM
Man, talking about this brings up another memory.

Many years ago, when we were kids, one of my cousins got beaten up by some white boys during Halloween. Anyway, my other cousin (his older brother) found out and went looking for the white boys and his friends. My older cousin was in a rage. He found the white boys, grabbed one of them by the neck, lifted him up, and proceeded to give him "plastic surgery" on his face. The white boy's father came out and screamed, "What are you doing to my son?!" My cousin responded, "Come out!!! I'll rearrange your face too!" The father ran back into his house and locked the door. lol Afterwards, my cousin LITERALLYTHREW the white boy under a car. lol

It was probably from that day on that nobody fucked with us. To this day, the stories of what my cousins did is still legend....with whites and Asians.

Whassup y'all,

Note that Tojo and I have deleted a shitload of posts from this thread, and he and Lopan have already made some comments about them.

If I had been around the last couple weeks (as I seem to have the least to do in life), they would have been deleted much sooner: we do not tolerate dumbass comments and attacks. Read some of our Declarations of Intent to gain a better understanding of our stance.

To the fifty-ish of you who have joined in the last couple weeks, welcome to the 44s. It's great to see all of you here, and we're only going to keep getting better. We have so many ideas it's unbelievable: it's mainly a matter of time and resources to see whether we can implement them.

If anyone else would like to make an introduction, feel free to do so here or start a new one. We love hearing from all of you.

I never did introduce myself to the forums.

My name is Peter, legally though it's my korean name, but it doesn't matter. I'm a 1.5 Korean generation. I like to rap and make music (guitar, beats) for hobbies. I like to hang out with my homies. I also like to listen to all kinds of music, rock to hip hop. I reside at Chicago and currently am a student.

Also, I'll like to note, I'm not the smartest person being only good with street knowledge. I am trying my hardest to learn everything about us, Asian Americans. So don't flame me for my lack of knowing something about some certain event or information.

Well that's all really, I'm out.

I found this site on asian-man.com, the porn site, so I'm here with my porn name, and will keep my regular identity a secret. I'm a middle aged Japanese guy, kind of a banana, kind of a stereotype, into politics and the usual web forum stuff. I like this site because, like some other AA websites, it's a way for people to get some AA history knowledge even if they aren't in college or on the coasts. It's not boring like some other sites.

One of our intentions is to reach out to the older, middle-aged generation who grew up more similarly to us rather than our parents (many of whom would be somewhat displeased if they knew we were running this site).

I wouldn't know, really. Maybe segregate them away from all the anger and stuff. I think a psychology forum might work. Then again, maybe not. That could kill the hostile vibe and turn this board into one of the boring boards.

Web forums are pretty low on my priorities. I put things like community involvement, career, and relationships ahead of entertainment. I'm here because I like cranky asian people, and this beats tv any day.

Great site that you guys have here, as it easily puts any Asian-American site on the Internet to absolute shame. I'm glad to be a part of this and will do my part to help the cause. Although admittedly my run-ins with prejudice and racism have been very mild compared to many of your experiences, I too know what it's like to have my presence in white America questioned just because I don't look like my neighbors on the block. I pay taxes, abide laws, and legally I have just as good of a chance to be elected President as Joe Schmoe so why am I asked "Where ya from?". Absolutely sickening and uncalled for, but what else can you expect from a bunch of "civilized" folk who think bombing an innocent village in the name of freedom is the right thing to do?

Anyways, some background info on myself, I'm a married 24 year old 2nd generation Korean-American residing Nebraska studying business/accounting at the university. Some may say I'm white-washed (I'm big on Husker football), but I'm fluent enough in my native tongue and can blend in with the international students at will. :) In closing, I'd like to say thanks for the free registration and hopefully I can add something worthwhile to the great debates you guys seem to have going on constantly.

Whassup Hurricanesteve, thanks for the props, and welcome to the 44s.

Feel free to engage in any debate you like on any subject matter you wish. We discuss everything under the sun, as long as it's debated with intelligence and slick-wit.

Hi everyone, cool site here. if you couldnt tell by my username, im from Portland, Oregon. Part of the reason i'm up here is because im damn fucking pissed off at the fact that Portland once had the 2nd largest chinese population in the country, and thats been reduced thru institutional racism (over the last century) to a mere 10% asian population (of which only around 3-4% are chinese) today... that and of course, this is where my parents decided to settle when they came over from Taiwan and HK, and this is where i was born--so its home, for better or worse.

Things may sound bad here to those of u in more "diverse" areas, but theyve been improving-thankfully. I enjoy participating in the community, and my job as an Urban/City Planner plays into that well (I'm currently involved in the Portland Chinatown Improvements Project at work). I'm also happy that my area (the 1st Oregon Congressional District) is currently being represented by the only Chinese American Congressman in the country, Mr. David Wu-- and the asian pop. seems to be growing here, fairly rapidly--altho that also has caused some negative effects from the local whiteys (and there are a LOT of local whiteys), especially in the more conservative suburbs-- oh well, fuck em im here to stay as long as i want to, if they cant deal with it, they can initiate another set of "white flight" and migrate inland to Idaho, Montana and the like. :D

Anyways, obviously some things are improving, but we have a long way to go, and i believe u can only do that by participation and unity, so here i am.

Oh... I also spent some time (4 years) in the Bay Area (Cupertino/Santa Clara/South Bay)... during my college years, miss the diversity, the food, and yeah... cupertino village lol.

Hope i didnt bore u all with my babbling. Glad to be onboard.

My experiences here in america as well as life in general have culminated in a very political view that I could not have predicted. I'm of pure northeast asian ethnicity and female. I have experience in the u.s. military. My views are pro-asia yet I have encountered many that straddle the middle which disgusts me. There is a slew of asian-americans that are as repugnant as africanamericans. They are completly white/blackwashed(meaning "everythingwashed-Lets fuk eachother to utter putrid and slimy mongrelization! thereby with the evil, disgusting, and monstrous seed wiping out all existing pure cultures and let the filth of the mediocre and animalistic take over, all this done in the name of political correctness and equality" This is the evil america has come to represent, INTERBREEDING TO EXPLOIT AND EVENTUALLY WIPE OUT ANY REAL SEMBLANCE OF PURE CULTURE. They think, feel as a "white" and exploit asian culture just as one while stupidly believing they are superior because they think, do, act "american" and believe this elevates thier status in thier own eyes, piggish hypocrites, bigots, and sellouts!! Think you can pick one out? Look at fanatical asian christian college kids. They should be stomped on like roaches. I am against interracial dating and especially marriage. I have lived here in america most my life and I am anti-caucasoid, negroid and anti-sellout. Even with these views that would be considered by many to be extremist I respect others as they respect my boundaries as I would respect theirs but of course few ever do.

Welcome Parisian. I was on the Champs a couple weeks ago when France beat Bulgaria (or Hungary or something?), and at the same time there was a big music festival, and shit was NUTS. Riot police, packs of wild kicking and screaming people, tons of Blacks and Whites mixing in somewhat segregated harmony, fuckin' crazy.

And I hear the girls start knockin' down the doors when a dude's in his 30s.

HERE'S MY OPINION ON ENTERING YOUR 30s.

ON PUSSY: Assuming you take care of yourself, you will notice girls from the age of 16 to 35 begin to CHECK YOU OUT and see you AS A MAN. The difference between now and when your in your 20s? You have the experience to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I see TOO MANY ASIAN GUYS, who have the looks, the intelligence, and the style, but just don't have the execution. They CONTENT THEMSELVES with the idea that "wow, she checked me out...I feel good" instead of taking the extra step to CONQUER THE PUSSY.

I'm VERY glad you're on the site, not only 'cause of your crazy birth combination, but because you quote GIBRAN in your signature.

I've read the Prophet as well as the COLLECTED WORKS, which is this HUGE 500-page tome of almost all things Gibran.

The Prophet is one of my favorite books of poetry of all time.

On a semi-related note, have you read Rumi?

Holy crap-- a kid quoting Gibran. That's what I get for having slept on this thread.

When I used to work at this Racist White grocery, the security guard (who hated management just as much) passed me the prophet.

That has got to be the most arrogant premise for a book ever. The amazing thing is that his words are so damn wise that he somehow pulls it off. A day doesn't go by where I'm not led directly by something I read in that book.

His is some of the most beautiful prose I've ever read. I wish I could his Arabic work.

About The Prophet specifically, I don't entirely agree with Gibran on all his stances, particularly that dealing with crime and punishment.

I do understand, though, that he's writing from a very highly-developed and integrated point of view, and that there's been so much violence in the history of his life and his people that writing something like that would be the right thing to do.

Entitlement's a bitch. So bascially, you are saying that this is a board where we check cards at the door, and if it says 100% at the door, you get a free pass with any sort of racist arguments you want? If I don't like it, you can just call me names, and make fun of my white dad and that wins points?

Fine. My "cracka daddy" and my "CCB" mother and my "son of a cracka" ass, who in all liklihood have done more this week for the advancement of Asian Americans than you have in your whole life, will apply our talents elsewhere.

It must be nice for you to have your own little web board where you can talk shit about people's mothers and not have to put yourself on the line...It's the same thing I run into when I spit truth at white folks. But at least they have the decency to personally attack me in public where I can embarass them or smack them around.

I talk here the same way I talk offline. Tell that to your "Chink mother and father". (Not intended seriously, unlike the slurs leveled at me).

Don't give me that 'coward' crap. I've tusseld with a few crackers in my day for not backing down. You must think I'm a 5-foot-5, 125 pound geek sitting behind my computer. Please.

Also... now I see where you get your tremendous savior complex from.  Tell me exactly what your father and mother have done - except further perpetuate the cracka/CCB image - to really help the AA cause. They had better be fucking 'U.N. Ambassadors for Asian Unity' or some shit.
Cowards come in all shapes and sizes. I'm not using it as a name to call thyself--it's one possible description of your actions. You can't come strong in discussions so you just start slinging slurs and personal attacks. Isn't that a common definition of "coward"? But anyway, the point is, I could give a fuck what you call yourself. We are in a discussion, you are sabotaging it for your own personal insecurities and that ain't right.

Ok, I'll introduce my family and myself, but you damn well demonstrate what you're doing with your "Divide so we can be conquered" ass and what your folks are doing. You better be Yuri Kochiyama parts 2, 3 and 4 for you to have an leg to stand on. If you just pick apart the lives my family and I have lived through your own hatred and prejudice for IRs and half-breeds, and put up nothing of your own, we'll know what's up.

My folks both worked their way up from working class in Chicago to be at the top of their respective fields. Despite this, they have not used the "bootstraps" myth and still live very modestly, as well as becoming more radical as time has gone on (many rags to riches folks go in the opposite direction). They are activity in charity, but in a researched, responsible way (not the throw money at bullshit big name charities type). They are both active in the reform of the labor movement, which of course, is what we owe any sort of humane working conditions in this country, but has fallen on difficult times as unions have become more like corporations. My mother has won non-faculty employee of the year award while still vocal on ethnic and class issues. She is the president of the union of non-faculty professional employees. Both work on local politics, working with the sellout Democrats when necessary, with the greens and socialists when possible. My father has used his position to do direct hiring of ethnic studies specialists, with a focus on them being vocal and socially active both within and outside of the academic setting. He personally brought the first Asian American History specialist to the University. He was part of a group that entered and occupied the University's administration building, expelling the entire administration for a couple of days in order to pressure them to focus more strongly on the issues of people of color. My mother mentors Asian American students, although she says it's hard because most of them are uninterested in racial and economic issues because tend to be upper-class. It takes a great deal of effort to get most AA students to work on these issues. (Maybe they are self-focused and waste time spewing racial epithets at her son on internet bulletin boards?) My father works with public school history and social studies teachers to help them work issues of race, class, labor, and immigration into their classes. My mother was very active when AFs were being attacked around the campus area. The university did nothing until it was far too late and she made sure they heard about it.

Well, believe it or not, I'm not really that eager to talk about myself, which is why I've been avoiding it. I had hoped that the self-focused feature would be enough, so I didn't bother posting an intro or anything.

Oh well.
Basically, I work on anything I can get my hands on. I've worked teaching Japanese kids about Asian America so that they are more sympathetic to our cause (which should be their cause also). We always need more people doing this, so if you are inactive, you should consider teaching in Japan. If more people taught about the AA perspective in Japan, maybe the American media wouldn't be able to use Japanese folks saying, "We aren't threatened by racist depictions of us," everytime the media rips Japanese people and it ends up hurting us (Asian Americans). I developed a curriculum that gives people actual real experience of racism and prejudice on multiple levels instead of giving lectures on it in some far off manner like the current curriculum tends to do.

I do a radio show on the local community station on Friday nights. We get in live electronic performers and other miscellaneous events. I get in some Asian American artists, but most of them are not thinking about their art as a way to empower AAs, so I try to challenge them on this. I sometimes do interviews with Asian American artists who are active even if their focus isn't music. I discuss Asian American issues on the show. I feel it is a great opportunity to not just "preach to the choir" since the listenership of the show is very mixed. My co-host is less empathetic on these issues, so we spar a bit, but of course, I win ;). I can say conclusively that a number of the artists have become more aware on AA issues, including several non-AAs who have become active. I don't know the general affect--it's hard sometimes in radio to track the exact response, but I do get critical responses occassionally, and when I do, I try to address them and/or shoot them down on air. I plug Angryasianman, and if I thought it wouldn't just confirm listeners prejudices, I'd be happy to plug this site as well.

Additionally, I am a member of the Programming Committee, which votes on programming decisions at the station. I have tried to be an outspoken proponent of not only being open to programming produced by people of color but to go further--encourage actual diversity in practice, not just in theory. As anyone who has tried to build a multi-ethnic coalition of any sort must be aware of, this is challenging because of the natural barriers people put up and how they unintentionally drive away anyone different from them, whether they have merit or not (see this forum).

I've taught in the public schools' after school program here in the states too. As a result, I've come into close contact with issues like IR adoptions, mixed families, homosexual couples with kids, unequal punishment of students based on ethnicity, etc. I've tried to raise the kids to understand that racism is not just name calling, but something more sinster and pervasive.

I'm a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Children in the foster care system. I review cases, visit kids, and try to advise what is in the best interests of the child. The system tends to be full of children of color. The advocates tend to be white. That creates problems that I try to bring to the attention of the program. While everyone is mourning the Anna Mae He case, I am trying to learn about the system that would allow such an atrocity and force change within it. I have a funny/sad/angering story about that I would like to share later on. But that's for another time.

I support Asian American artists, especially politically outspoken ones. I am trying to build a comprehensive library of Asian American films, music, spoken word, whatever. If you have suggestions, let me know. I go to shows when I can, but I'm not exactly centrally located--much of my education must be internet based. I am a little curious about how involved folks living in huge Asian communities are in those communities. I'm jealous I don't have that type of community as most artists hit their stride after college once they've moved on. (That said, U of I, certainly has had its share of gifted AAs come through).

I made a concerted effort to find a loved one who would be most empathetic on Asian American issues. I was likely to find several and the one I've settled with happens to be white. She has been very active in Asian American issues independent of my own interests. She has demonstrated to me how much more beautiful it is to be active for justice and the rights of all people as opposed to just those of yourself. That's why I am empathetic and hope to help, but I don't have too much current respect for AMs who say, "My dick hurts, I'm so persecuted, I need equality so I can fuck different women." I hate the persecution and emasculation of AMs, and I work hard on those issues, but some racist, sexist AM who just wants to get laid isn't my priority.

I stay informed on Asian American issues both locally and nationally and try to come up with strategic responses to situations. I called the ACLU and New Mexico tourism agency after I researched and found that they were advertising in Details. I explained to them why advertising in a racist publication and not advertising in Asian American publications was them not just allowing racist speech, but PROMOTING it. They were pretty condescending, but I did get them to agree to address the issue at their next meeting to determine advertising campaigns. Unfortunately, I don't really have the access to follow-up on the promise. The New Mexico guy seemed embarassed about the whole thing. I talked to VISA about the same campaign and they asked me for information about AA internet movements. They asked how they could better gauge AA response to their advertising instead of grouping us with whites. It was an interesting conversation, and they asked me to send some materials. I have no idea whether it accomplished anything.

I have written a number of articles on everything from Jan Stephenson to Japanese festivals celebrating genocide of Koreans, from internment to baseball. Some are available online. They are easy to find as I am using my name on this forum, so I'm not going to link them so the half-breed haters at least have a little more trouble finding my home address. Of course, if you come bother me, you come bother me.

I'm also sitting on an advisory board for a center for the severely mentally handicapped, love sports, blah blah blah. These aren't really Asian American related, but you can't organize on the same issues 24 hours a day. I sleep and read occasionally and write less than I ought to.

My blood type is O. I'm 5"10, 150. I'm into fashion, dancing, and tackle football with no pads. To quote Kristina Wong, "I am a beautiful animal."

Oh also, I hate hapas and I think any IR regardless how empathetic the couple is, is inherently inferior to any 100/100 relationship, no matter how hateful and self-deprecating the couple is. Oh, wait, that's not me, nevermind.

Put the fuck up or shut the hell up.

Other folks: Sorry if I seem angry, sorry if my blood ain't pure. Sorry if I don't witchhunt on AFs just because they don't always do what AMs tell them to do. If this seems harsh, so be it. What would you do if in spending your whole life fighting for Asian American causes, you had some punk come up spitting racial slurs at you, your father and mother? If some white kid rolled into this forum and everytime his tongue/brain froze up, it was chink-this and chink-that? I sure hope people would bug the fuck out.

To quote Kristina Wong, "I'm a beautiful creature."

Xian,

I just read this post, so disregard my prior postings. I'm impressed. :) Like I've said in the past, I agree with a LOT of what you say. But, I still don't see you as an Asian. Hapa, yes. But not Asian. And, I DO appreciate all of your work for Asians. Just don't get offended if some of us don't consider you to be a true Asian. A lot of Asians don't.

Hello everyone,

I came to this site like many others here because it was mentioned in the MM.com forum. After browsing through the posts I decided to register a couple of weeks ago to find out what the fuss is all about  I had not visited this forum for a short period because of a well needed vacation and I have to say that I am impressed by the growth of the memberlist.

Anyway, I live in the Netherlands *, where I was also born, and I work in IT, although I am still trying to figure out what exactly it is that I am doing at work. Apart from attempting to stay up-to-date regarding Asian issues, I dedicate my time to women, partying, rock music, and breaking my computers while attempting to make them operate properly. Man, after reading that last sentence I finally realised just how shallow I truly am.

Even though I do not live in the US, many of the the experiences that are discussed in Asian American forums are readily recognisable for me. Sites like MM.com and thefighting44s.com are an eye-opener in a certain way, but not in the sense that I was ignorant of the issues that Asians living in non-Asian countries are forced to deal with. It is more along the lines of being more alert and proactive during one of those situations, if you know what I mean. They keep that proverbial fire burning.

It is superfluous to mention that sites like this one can be a great medium to share experiences and ideas. Plus, heated discussions keep the grey matter in shape. My experiences at MM.com have been very positive so far, and I hope that I will be able to say the say the same thing about thefighting44s.com in the not too distant future.

Of course your experiences have been positive at MM have been positive inferno. You do that silly fact checking you always do in order to prove the, ahem, less cognitive beings there wrong. When you are on the top of the intellectual ladder, of course you will find it enjoyable

Hello fellow asian-americans,

I discovered this site tonight, and am looking forward to reading and sharing meaningful dialogue about our common plight in America. I'm in my early 30s and a korean male from nyc. I do get angry about many things and that's why I chose my nickname. At least I'll be able to vent my frustrations along with you guys. :)

Thank you for creating this site, and keep up the good work.

It's summertime and I'm at home without a chore in the house at 4:20 in the morning ramming away at the ketboard with that crazed, sweaty, molester look in my eye. I go on elsewhere as GroundZeroBoy although it's not simply because I live in Manhattan, NY and I'm hardly a flag-waving, gun-toting, 9-11 aftermath veteran surfer of the neoconservative wave. I am but a simple Chinese man...A humble descendant of the Hans...looking for a peaceful, fruitful, meaningful life only to be tossed into the bedlam of the anglocentric, ultra-consumerist, media-airburst, spiritually post-apocalyptic Americana clusterfuck that was my high school years. But I'd rather light a fuse then curse the darkness, for blessed is the fire that burns in the belly of the dissident. A cultural pilgrimage to the People's homeland enriched the charge, and I've brought it back to this city of my birth to hurl between the round eyes of mighty Goliath. Call me what you need to, banana, fob-abee, twinkie in denial, extemist, racist or just plain asshole. Should you be a pink, orientalist, pigfucker in power, I'm going to plant our golden seed in your daughter and put agent orange in your food. I can't help but get ahead of myself: This is a call to arms. All my golden sisters and brothers, misrepresented, misinterpreted, miseducated and bound, rise up and cast the cauls from your eyes. Our feet aren't wet, and we speak better English then most of these orientalist oppressors. Forget the asian copout inheritors of social stratification; fuck taking this place from the top-down, it's time to take it from the bottom-up. Death to the Orientalists.

Thanks for the welcome and I appreciate the appreciation. You are totally on the ball with maintaining responses and keeping the communication going, brother. I hope I dont come off as having some sort of anarcho-messianic god complex; really I've gotta give the East Asians credit for not coming up with anything as psychotically violent as a monotheistic orthodox religion. Anyhow, I'm trying to organize a core group Asian activists for a september movement; I am the founder of the United Students Reformation Party (currently in power as the student government of Borough of Manhattan Community College), and the recent ex-President of the SGA at BMCC (with pride, the first Chinese-American President in the history of that institution). I'm gonna be at Columbia University in September, and I hope to meet up with a whole bunch of y'all to stir up some well deserved fervor and fuck some shit up. My man Scowl introduced me to this site, and after surfing around encountering nothing but Asian anglo-apologists and other ignorant wanks everywhere else, I'm really happy to bump into some serious thinkers who are ready for change.

hi B the student here. So I guess this is the place where i lay all my cards out and tell you what I'm doing here. I've come here to learn more about myself and about the issues that affect my asian brothers and sisters. I ain't here to fuck around, but to do some serious analyzing. I'm not asian, I'm not really anything. I consider myself a mutt. But i ain't playing, i probably don't have the slightest idea about the discrimination many of you have to face. I'm here to see my own strengths and weaknesses. To analyze my own subconscious racism, self-hatred, compassion, and kindness.

Now the question is how the fuck did i end up here? I've become enthralled with Japanese pop culture. That's right anime and manga and all that shit. I ain't no Wapanese, otaku, asiaphile or whatever you fucking call them whites (or I guess any non-asian for that matter) that run around trying to be asian. But I ain't so full headed of myself to know that i was walking a dangerous path in that direction. That is until i came here. This place is like a good kick in the nuts. Really opens your eyes for a good moment, before you wince in pain at the realization of what has become of you. It's making me re-analyze myself, thoughts, dreams, and all.

To be honest, I don't know how much I can contribute to your cause. But let me know if there's a way i can help. I joined here to grow and to become stronger and to understand the AA side of the story. I just hope I can give as much to this place as I take. I've come here to learn, but who knows maybe someday I'll teach.

much love

Rather late to the welcoming party, but I guess I'll have to do my best.

I'm a 20-year-old female of Hokkien descent who's currently studying in Melbourne, Australia but most of my family live in South-East Asia (I go back every year to celebrate Chinese New Year; looking forward to the trip home soon).

I'm the eldest of three and am hoping to teach my siblings to be as proud of their ancestry as I am, despite the fact we're bananas, having been educated in preppy English schools and what-not.

I also recently had two-thirds of my back tattooed with an Asian dragon, hence my nick, and am planning to have the outer area of my thighs covered in a similar design.

Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute a bit to this place...

Hi, I'm Jessica, if you hang out at the MM forum, you might know me by the same name. I'm an Ohioan, which means I'm bored out of my mind 99% of the time. I am a freshman in high school, 14 years old, and a white girl. I first got into AA issues when I read "Strangers From a Different Shore" by Ronald Takaki, and if youíre wondering how I found the time to read a 500-page non-fiction book out of pure curiosity, itís because Iím ěthe smart kid,î and I have no friends. If you want to get to know me, check out my xanga. It isnít updated everyday anymore, because I have cheerleading practice after school almost every day (yeah, Iím a cheerleader, and Iím still not popular). My current hobby is film, because Iím in a class called ěDigital Visual Artsî so I have access to a palm cam whenever. Iím actually considering making some sort of short movie this summer, because ever since I saw Better Luck Tomorrow, Iíve been enamored with indie films. Itís nice not to be able to guess the end of a movie 5 min. into it. ::cough normal movies cough:: Well, Iíve probably told you more than you really care about, but thanks if you actually read to the end of this!

Whassup Jessica, welcome to the 44s, glad to see ya here. Yes yes, we got CHEERLEADERS up in heah now! :D

And now the spiel ... If you haven't already, please check out our Declarations to learn about our vision and stance. Little Red Book offers guidance for the type of posting we want to see here (we know you won't have a prob writing with intelligence and wit), and Integral Slanted discusses the more complex aspects of Integral Theory and Practice.

hello.

-my name is carla
-i reside in the sub-basement of hell (hah, sometimes) a.k.a long beach, ca.
-i'm 23 and in my final semester of undergraduate school double majoring in philosophy and women's studies.
-i'm half filipino and half malaysian. i was born in the philippines and moved to the good-ol' USofA back in '87. it's rather unfortunate that i do not know any malaysians outside the members of my family. my fault i guess, but if you're reading this and you're malaysian, holla-at-yo-girl. even if you're not malaysian, i guess i wouldn't mind a lovely holler either  . heh.
-i've been interested in feminist as well as as/am related issues considering that i myself am an as/am woman and have dealt with racism/classism/sexism/whateverism throughout my life. i'm as mad as hell and i'm not going to take this anymore!
and finally,
-i have to admit that things are really starting to look up for me since my life turned to shit. ~ghost world

Im a black male from NYC. Working at home. My names Byron, my wife is asian (taiwanese). I just wanna get more insight into the asian-american culture. I have a lot of spare time on my hands. Ive received racism from both whites, BLACKS and asians alike.

This is an interesting board, as long as you don't let the crazies (including myself) get to you!

Whassup Tappitytap (Wanderingsoul, welcomed ya in another thread!), welcome to the 44s, glad you're here! We got another Black male or two up in here, a couple Black females, and also some Black/hispanic mixes. We don't of course primarily classify people based on ethnicity/ gender, but on a forum like this we figure it's important to tell folks what's goin' down along those lines.

Finally, you now have access to Sleeper Cells (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=14), NC-17 (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=9), and Fight Club (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=28). Thanks for joining, and have some fun!

You've probably read this spiel before, but I make it a point to say it to every new member who introduces him/herself.

I found this board not so long ago, and i've been creepin and lurkin to see what it is all about. I have to say this is a good site. I used to visit asianguy and get all my angryasian news from there, but that site is deader than the career of a chinaman in Hollywood. The only complaint about this site is too many forums and hard to keep up with many of them. I hope to contribute to some enlightening discussions. By the way, I from Maryland. Anyother 44's fightin' in MD.

Whassup Buddhastyle, welcome to the 44s, glad you're aboard.

Thanks for the props; yep, we know the forums may be a bit overwhelming. At present we think this is the best way to organize things, though who knows, we may reduce the number in future.

Hmmm, well, I don't know about amusing...but I recently was dog-sitting this somewhat vicious little dog for a neighbor. She was pretty old and pretty nasty so I didn't want to leave her at home in case she'd rip up my shit. I took her to work with me and had her lay under my desk. She basically slept all day but then my boss came out and started talking to me about something and I guess I moved my foot and it touched her. She fucking bit into my foot and I screeched really loud. My boss thought I was insane, and he just sort of stood there staring at me for a couple minutes while I tried to make something up...I think I said that I had a leg cramp or something to that affect. He never knew I had the dog there so he most likely still thinks I'm crazy. Horrible dog. She pissed under my desk as well. :x

Whassup BitchonWheels, welcome to the 44s, glad to have you aboard! Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us (as well as your photo!), and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Our forum is composed of six categories, each with its own theme and function.

1) The first category, "Welcome to the Fighting44s!" focuses on the community and the website itself. In Declarations of Intent (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=1) we describe our philosophy and management practice, and it's very important that you read our vision and stance (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=536). Rules of Engagement (http://www.thefighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=29)contains guidelines for the type of posting we want to see here: if you don't have the time or the inclination to read the threads themselves, then at least read the subject headings to get an idea of what we do and do not allow. Dramatis Personae (http://www.fighting44s.com/discussion/viewforum.php?f=13) is a forum for members to introduce themselves and get a big warm welcome, and you now have access to Sleeper Cells (http://www.t
