I met D maybe a year and a half ago - cool guy, very smart, good politics. Damned articulate. Great drinking buddy.

When he approached me about 44, I had my doubts. I've fucked around in forums a lot in the past 12 years, back when the Internut was a collection of Campbells soup cans connected by string. ALL of them went to shit because of this libertarian / free speech bullshit that most netters seem to hold as grail. soc.culture.asian.american (http://groups.google.com/groups?q=soc.culture.asian.american&ie=UTF-8&hl=en), for example - what a piece of worthless shit.

But with 44, D said we have a chance to do something where the genesis were 5 solid asian dudes - also intelligent, articulate, cool, smart, good politics - maybe we can set the tone and build something. You know?

We're all floored by the current success of 44. And scared to death that it'll become corrupted just like every other BB / usenet group / forum that I've ever had the misfortune participating in. So Core 44 banded together (over drinks, natch) to say: "Fuck man, keep a tight rein, don't let the assholes take over." I still have doubts - to pull a page from Aliens, I still think things'll go to shit - "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. That's the only way to be sure."

I don't want that to happen, now. I love this place, I love my boys, and yeah, I love you fuckers too because I know you all get it. So few people do - everyone's so hostile out there to our anger.

Not here, dudes. We're all 44 here. We all get it.

The Core is NOT elite - we just run the site. We are ALL 44's. We are ALL elite in the face of the enemy.

So help us out here. Don't question our intentions, because it's so obvious that our intentions are right and good, and to question it... man, that really is offensive.

Trust us - we have clarity in vision. We all do - and if we don't, we all need to because without it, THEY win.

Mang, if it wasn't for the bad sashimi I had last night, I'd be out drinking it up with you.

This is not a forum for our narcissism. This is a forum for the dissemination of intelligence, commisseration in suffering, and encouragement for "holistic" or "integrated" growth.

It has become clear that many of us have significant emotional scars. On the positive side, this has lead to the attainment of deeper insight into the nature of existence; on the negative, it has resulted in some deep-rooted pathological thought and behavior.

It is our wish to help one another overcome our various pathologies to become healthier human beings, and hopefully have some good laughs and spit some good shit in the process. There IS such a thing as growth, and there IS such a thing as a better or worse opinion; if there were not, we would be left with a big mess of stances and conceptual models devoid of any value. A big mess of words devoid of value is also devoid of meaning.

We have meaning, and we recognize value. That's why we're doing this.
