Things I have eaten that will lead me to an early death

Ok, before I start this post, I’d like to say that these food items were eaten throughout the course of a year, not in the course of a couple of hours. When I dine out, I’ll usually order things that I wouldn’t normally make for myself at home. Also, when I eat at home, I try to incorporate a couple colors worth of veggies into my meals. So don’t go through this blog thinking I don’t get any roughage and that I’m a salt addict.
So yes, I fully acknowledge that I fricking love fast food. I think it’s the forbidden element of it, everyone’s always going on and on about how bad it is for you, but they don’t mention the fact that it’s delicious. Think about it - especially fast food from chain restaurants - there’s a lot of testing that goes on beforehand to make sure that this food is appealing in both taste and appearance so that people will keep coming back to consume more.
First up are some corn dogs. I’ve never been to a county fair or anything like that, so I’d never tried one in the past. These are from Nathans. I grew up on the east coast and I’m a Nathan’s girl through and through. And no fricking ketchup on hotdogs. Mustard and kraut only (yes I know those hotdogs are naked, we just hadn’t dressed them yet).

I swear, this Nathan’s was the most frightening experience I’d ever had in a restaurant. It was in Yonker’s NY and the people who eat there are NOT happy people. For me, eating out is supposed to be fun. You go out to eat because it’s a treat. Nope, not at this place. This old black lady threatened to fight my little brother (ok, he was 21 at the time, so technically he’s not really little). She was on line in front of us, and left for a bit, and then when it was her turn, she wasn’t there so we started ordering. And then she came back all pissed off and threatened to fight my brother. And then the people who had been on line ahead of us didn’t get some sort of topping for their hotdog and came and yelled at the cashier guy about it. Either way, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal - Nathan’s hotdogs are really tasty.
This corndog is from Hot Dog on a Stick - which is something we don’t have on the east coast. I shared this one in Vegas with my sister. You’ll notice that we had Chile Limon Lay’s potato chips on the side. Why does the west coast have such good snack food? Here on the east coast, in terms of flavor, there are more chips that are sweet tasting than savory. I enjoy a good savory chip.

The next thing is KFC. I once looked at a list of famous death row prisoners’ last meals and noticed that one of the foods that came up most often was fried chicken. And there’s a reason why - it’s comforting and delicious. It has all the elements that make food appealing - fattiness, saltiness, crunchiness, meatiness and a touch of sweet from the frying of the crust. I think I bought KFC that day because I had the desire to eat food out of a bucket and where else can one purchase a bucket of food but KFC? I got the 8 piece dinner for the bf and myself with mashed potatoes, biscuits and cole slaw as my sides.

So while I was eating, I realized something was VERY wrong. I went and got a bottle of hot sauce and thought that would cure everything. Then I realized what it was - I was missing my kimchi.

Next is a “tasting menu” that my brother and I got at McDonalds. I know McDonalds does not have a tasting menu, it’s just that I’m a pretentious little turd. I think in the past 10 years I’ve been to McDonalds about 5 times total. So when I do go, it’s a big treat for me. You’re probably wondering where the fries are - and the truth is, I don’t really like fries. Nor does the bro. I like the fries at Nathans, but that’s about it. I’m more of an onion ring girl.
So this is what we shared - McNuggets, Filet o Fish (mine with extra pickles), an Angus bacon and cheese burger. For some reason they gave us some extra special sauce in a little paper cup. I don’t remember asking for it. Weird.

So this is my absolute favorite thing at McDonalds - the Filet o fish with extra pickles.

Also, I’ve decided that nuggets are like pizza or good Chinese food - they taste best when you eat it at the restaurant. I’ve had nuggets that people have brought to my house, still warm from McDonalds, but the steaming that occurs in the little box on the way home ruins the texture of the coating.

The bacon cheese Angus was pretty much what we expected, sort of like a diner burger, only cheaper and not cooked medium rare like we usually order. Still, I can’t really complain, it had all of the same flavor elements of a tasty burger, but for a cheaper price.
And lastly we have a little dessert. Granted, I know this isn’t fast food, but it’s fried food and equally bad for you. These are fried oreos and a fried twinkie. The oreos were delicious. The twinky not so much. I hadn’t had a twinky in years, and was very disappointed by the taste. I remember enjoying them as a child, but for some reason, they tasted really terrible to me.
The oreos softened up during the frying -they were cake-like in texture.

The twinky.

8:18 pm | Jul 17, 2008Nathan’s Hotdogs are so good. They make all other hotdogs seem sad.
Also, I suffered a heartattack after I looked at all these food pictures. And suddenly, I have a craving for McNuggets.
